Flavor Flav Offers Jordan Chiles Bronze Necklace Amid Olympic Medal Dispute

Flavor Flav wants to gift Jordan Chiles a special piece of bronze jewelry after the Olympic gymnast lost her third-place medal in the women’s floor final on August 5.

After the Court of Arbitration for Sport decided to strip the 23-year-old Team USA athlete of her bronze medal, the American rapper posted a heartwarming message on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Next to footage of himself at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Flavor Flav wrote: “Ayyy YOOOO @ChilesJordan, imma make you a BRONZE CLOCK NECKLACE, and that’s something NO ONE else has,!!! Hit me up my girl. I gotchu!!!”

The “Fight the Power” performer joined a chorus of celebrities and athletes expressing their support for Chiles following the controversial decision. Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Aly Raisman, and Laurie Hernandez have all spoken out in defense of Chiles.

On August 5, Chiles completed her final routine in the women’s floor exercise. The judges initially awarded her a score of 13.666, which positioned her fifth behind Romanian athletes Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea.

However, Chiles’ coach contested the judges’ evaluation of her difficulty score, arguing it should be higher. After a review, the judges agreed with the coach’s assessment and updated Chiles’ score, elevating her to third place just before Barbosu was set to receive her medal.

This change allowed Chiles to join Biles in second place and Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade in first, marking the occasion as the first all-Black gymnast podium in Olympic history.

However, the Romanian Olympic Committee challenged the judges’ decision, prompting the Court of Arbitration for Sport to investigate Team USA’s score inquiry. On August 10, the CAS requested Chiles to return her bronze medal, claiming her coach’s inquiry was submitted past the one-minute deadline.

The International Gymnastics Federation reinstated Chiles’s initial score of 13.666, awarding Barbosu the third-place position with a score of 13.7.

Before the August 11 closing ceremony, Barbosu addressed Chiles and her teammate, Voinea, on social media.

“Sabrina, Jordan, my thoughts are with you. I know what you are feeling because I’ve been through the same. But I know you’ll come back stronger,” the 18-year-old gymnast wrote on Instagram, according to a report by People. “I hope from deep of my heart that at the next Olympics, all three of us will share the same podium. This is my true dream!”

Barbosu continued, “This situation would not have existed if the persons in charge had respected the regulation. We, athletes are not to be blamed, and the hate directed to us is painful. I wanted to end this edition of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 in the spirit of Olympism, the true value of the world.”

Chiles announced she would be taking a break from social media in light of the upsetting reversal and the online negativity aimed at her. “I am taking this time and removing myself from social media for my mental health, thank you,” she stated, according to People.

Speaking to People, USA Gymnastics strongly condemned the hateful commentary aimed at Chiles since the launch of the investigation. “Throughout the appeal process, Jordan has been subject to consistent, utterly baseless, and extremely hurtful attacks on social media,” they said in an official statement to the outlet.

“No athlete should be subject to such treatment. We condemn the attacks and those who engage, support, or instigate them. We commend Jordan for conducting herself with integrity both on and off the competition floor, and we continue to stand by and support her,” the statement concluded.
