Florida MAGA Lawmaker Charged with Forgery from Christian School Role

Florida state lawmaker Carolina Amesty turned herself in to authorities after being indicted on forgery charges.

A Republican state representative in Florida has surrendered to law enforcement following her indictment on multiple charges, including forgery.

Carolina Amesty, 29, faces serious allegations such as forgery, uttering a forgery, providing false acknowledgment or certification as a notary public, and notarizing her own signature, according to reports from the Orlando Sentinel.

The charges stem from her role as an administrator at Central Christian University in Orange County, Florida, which is operated by her father, as indicated by the Sentinel.

State Attorney Andrew Bain revealed that a concerned citizen alerted his office to potential criminal activity.

Bain stated, “That information was presented to the grand jury, who found sufficient evidence to return an indictment. I am committed to upholding fairness and justice in every case by applying the law equally to everyone, and my record reflects this dedication.”

In a statement released prior to her surrender at the Orange County Jail, Amesty noted that she is facing up to twenty years in prison due to the four felony charges.

Amesty is facing serious legal repercussions following her indictment.

Amesty claimed that the prosecution was initiated shortly before absentee ballots were distributed, accusing it of being based on misleading information reported by a partisan newspaper. She emphasized that the truth of the contents has not been questioned.

She stated, “Rep. Amesty calls for a speedy trial, looks forward to her day in court, and is confident of her public vindication.”

The indictment follows extensive investigations into Amesty’s background conducted by the Orlando Sentinel. The Sentinel published a report earlier this year alleging that Amesty notarized a form in 2021, asserting that Robert Shaffer, a long-time educator, was employed by Central Christian. However, Shaffer denied ever working there or signing any such forms.

The newspaper also revealed that Amesty provided false information to the state about Central Christian, neglected to ensure taxes were paid for her $1.3 million home, and falsely claimed to operate a successful restaurant, among other accusations.

In response, Amesty described the Sentinel’s investigation as a “hit job” based on “misunderstandings.”

Amesty is known to be a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump, and she reportedly met her fiancé at a Trump rally in 2020, as highlighted by the Orlando Sentinel.

The Independent has reached out to Amesty’s office for further comment.
