Florida State Tailback Jaylin Lucas Out for Remainder of the Season

Florida State’s tailback, Jaylin Lucas, will miss the remainder of the season due to injury, as announced by head coach Mike Norvell.

While the university does not provide specifics regarding injuries, Norvell indicated that Lucas has the option to use his remaining redshirt year, which would leave him with two additional years of eligibility. Norvell expressed optimism about Lucas’s return to Florida State in 2025.

“I’m still very excited about what his future is as a Seminole,” he remarked. “However, it’s unfortunate that we will lose him for the rest of the season.”

Lucas played a significant role in the Seminoles’ running back lineup and is recognized as one of the most electrifying kick returners nationwide. Having transferred from Indiana, he concluded last season with an impressive total of 572 return yards and a touchdown.

Despite entering the season with expectations that the running game would be a key strength of the offense, Florida State is struggling. After starting the season with two losses, the Seminoles currently sit at 128th in the nation for rushing yards per game, averaging just 59.5. Lucas has participated minimally, recording only two carries for 13 yards, along with three receptions for 39 yards.

In light of Lucas’s injury, Coach Norvell looks to the younger running backs on the roster to step up. Notably, freshman Kam Davis is among those expected to take on a greater role in the coming games.

Norvell added, “Our thoughts are with him as he begins the rehabilitation process, and I know he’ll continue to support the team from the sidelines.”
