Floyd Mayweather, Mookie Betts Honored at Star-Studded L.A. Party

Floyd Mayweather, Mookie Betts, and a constellation of other star athletes and actors gathered at an exclusive party in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. The event featured an emotional speech from the undefeated 50-0 boxer, who shared heartfelt words with the illustrious attendees.

In addition to Mayweather and the 8x All-Star Betts, the star-studded guest list included Draymond Green, Terance Mann, Michael Porter Jr., Trevor Ariza, Meagan Good, and Jonathan Majors.

The celebration marked the launch of Hidden Empire Sports, a collaboration between The Union and EAG Sports Management. One of the evening’s most memorable moments came when 47-year-old Mayweather received an award for his contributions to sports and entertainment. In his acceptance speech, he spoke passionately about his ambition to be the best.

“I had a dream. I had a goal to be the best,” Floyd told the audience. He went on to highlight the importance of fathers, praising his own. “My dad is remarkable, an unbelievable trainer, and I really got to take my hat off to my father. Me and my dad, through rain, sleet, snow, and hail, he believed in me. He truly, truly believed in me. And we need more Black fathers like my father.”

Gil Robertson, president of the African-American Film Critics Association (AAFCA), also recognized Draymond Green and Mookie Betts during the event.

Attendees were treated to an exclusive trailer of Mayweather’s upcoming documentary, “The GOAT.” Directed by Deon Taylor and produced by Roxanne Taylor, the preview provided a glimpse into the documentary which highlights Mayweather’s journey to the pinnacle of the sports world. The documentary aims to show a different side of Mayweather, revealing aspects of his life that the public hasn’t seen before.

“We broke the story in late 2022,” Mayweather remarked, referring to the documentary project he’s been working on with the Taylors. “I just feel the world should see a different part of Floyd Mayweather. I think the people should see a different part of me.”

Los Angeles, always a magnet for celebrities, was particularly abuzz this week as numerous athletes flocked to the city for the ESPY Awards, set to take place on Thursday. The mid-week gala added another layer of star power to the bustling metropolis.
