Foo Fighters respond to Trump’s use of ‘My Hero’ at Arizona rally

Foo Fighters have made it clear that they did not authorize Donald Trump to use their popular song “My Hero” during a recent rally in Arizona. This event took on significance as Trump welcomed Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a former political rival who has since supported him.

The American rock band stated they were not consulted about the song’s use and emphasized that, had they been asked, they would have denied permission. The rally unfolded with fireworks and the band’s anthem playing in the background as Kennedy joined Trump on stage.

In a statement shared with Billboard, a Foo Fighters spokesperson asserted, “Foo Fighters were not asked permission, and if they were, they would not have granted it.” Furthermore, they revealed that “appropriate actions are being taken” in response to the Trump campaign’s use of the song. Any royalties received from this incident will be donated to the Harris/Walz campaign.

On their official account on X, the band responded succinctly when a user inquired if they had permitted Trump to use their song. “No,” they stated, later amplifying that response with the message, “Let us be clear.”

During the rally, Trump described Kennedy as “a very low-key person,” asserting he was highly respected and a long-time acquaintance. He took the opportunity to praise Kennedy’s ability to unite individuals across the political spectrum, invoking the legacies of his father and uncle, Robert and John F. Kennedy.

In continuing his speech, Trump vowed to form a commission that would investigate presidential assassinations, promising to unveil any remaining classified information regarding the JFK assassination.

Despite the enthusiasm from Trump’s supporters, the reaction from the Kennedy family was starkly different. Following the rally, a statement was issued by members of the Kennedy family, characterizing Trump’s endorsement as a “betrayal.”

The family expressed, “We want an America filled with hope and bound together by a shared vision of a brighter future, a future defined by individual freedom, economic promise, and national pride.” They added that the alliance with Trump was “a sad ending to a sad story.”

The Independent has reached out to the Trump campaign regarding the unauthorized use of “My Hero,” as well as the actions that Foo Fighters are reportedly pursuing as a result.
