The actor Armie Hammer faced accusations of abuse and sexual assault from numerous women.

  • Armie Hammer announced on Instagram his need to sell his pickup truck.
  • He expressed his inability to afford gas after moving back to Los Angeles.
  • Hammer has been residing in the Cayman Islands since allegations of sexual assault surfaced in 2021.

Armie Hammer, once a rising star best known for his role in “Call Me By Your Name,” recently revealed he had to sell his pickup truck due to rising expenses. Hammer stated that he struggled to afford gas after relocating back to Los Angeles.

His reputation took a severe hit in early 2021 when multiple women accused him of abusive behavior and shared explicit messages they claimed were sent by the actor. These messages remain unverified.

In January 2021, Hammer vehemently denied the allegations, dubbing them “bullshit” in a statement to Variety. However, in a more recent interview with Air Mail in 2023, he acknowledged having been emotionally abusive towards his accusers.

The Los Angeles Police Department conducted a two-year investigation, which began in March 2021. This came after one accuser, Efrosina Angelova, publicly alleged that Hammer raped her in 2017. Ultimately, Hammer was never charged with any crime and firmly denied these allegations.

Since the allegations surfaced, Hammer had primarily lived in the Cayman Islands. However, a new Instagram post revealed that he moved back to Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago, finding a new apartment.

Due to high gas prices in California, Hammer felt compelled to sell his pickup truck, which he described as a cherished Christmas gift he purchased for himself in 2017. He mentioned that he has spent around four to five hundred dollars on gas since returning to Los Angeles, indicating that he can no longer sustain such costs.

“I’ve loved this truck intensely,” Hammer shared in his post. He informed followers that he planned to sell the vehicle at CarMax and had already purchased a smaller hybrid car to offset expenses.

“I’m probably gonna put about 10 bucks of gas in it a month,” he noted, emphasizing the financial adjustments he was making.

In a reflective moment during the video, Hammer looked back on positive experiences tied to his truck, such as camping trips and travels across the country.

“Here’s to new beginnings. It’s my birthday tomorrow, so August 28th, I will be starting my birthday in a new car, in a new apartment, in a new life in Los Angeles,” he said, hinting at a fresh chapter.

While Hammer did not disclose the reasons behind his return to Los Angeles, there are indications he may be seeking to reenter the entertainment industry. In June, he mentioned on the “Painful Lessons” podcast that he had collaborated with a friend on a script he hopes to develop into a project.

Since 2022’s “Death on the Nile,” which was filmed prior to the controversies, Hammer has not appeared in any films. Following the allegations, he was dropped by both his talent agency and publicist, resulting in him exiting two film projects and a television series.

Despite being a descendant of the affluent oil tycoon, Armand Hammer, the actor claimed in a July episode of the “Club Random with Bill Maher” podcast that he is currently broke and does not have access to family wealth. “I have come to the place where I understand that there are no free lunches, and anything that you take always has strings,” he expressed. “I would rather go get a job selling time-shares. I’d rather go get a job.” He also discussed his inability to obtain a work permit while living in the Cayman Islands.
