Freddie Highmore Secures First TV Role Post ‘The Good Doctor’

Freddie Highmore is making a return to television. The actor, well-known for his role on ABC’s medical drama The Good Doctor, has landed his first TV series since the show concluded in May. According to Deadline, Highmore will star in the upcoming Prime Video thriller series The Assassin, created by Harry and Jack Williams. Additionally, Keeley Hawes, famous for her role in Bodyguard, is set to co-star.

The show’s synopsis sets an intriguing premise: “Secluded on a remote Greek island, retired assassin Julie (Hawes) has a thorny reunion with her estranged son, Edward (Highmore), who visits from England. Armed with questions about his paternity, Edward struggles to find the right moment to address his mother’s distant behavior. However, when the moment finally arrives, the reunion takes a deadly turn as Julie’s dangerous past catches up with them, forcing the pair to flee the island and go on the run together.”

Highmore is known for his role as Dr. Shaun Murphy on The Good Doctor, a series that ran for seven seasons on ABC. The show was announced to be ending after its seventh season in January, with the series finale airing on May 21. This officially capped the series at 126 episodes. Before his stint on The Good Doctor, Highmore starred in Bates Motel, a contemporary prequel to Psycho. Given this impressive resume, it’s not surprising that Highmore is continuing his journey on television, and fans are eager to see what he will bring to this new role.

Additionally, Highmore will take on the role of executive producer alongside Hawes. The six-episode series also features a star-studded cast including Gina Gershon, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jack Davenport, Alan Dale, Gerald Kyd, Devon Terrell, Richard Dormer, and David Dencik. More cast members are expected to be announced later. While a premiere date is yet to be confirmed, further information should emerge soon once filming gets underway, if it hasn’t already.

Hannah Blyth, Head of TV for Prime Video UK, expressed her excitement about the series, saying, “From the moment Harry and Jack shared their vision for The Assassin, we knew that it would resonate perfectly with our audience. The Assassin promises to deliver a high-stakes thriller with a dynamic mother-son relationship at its core, packed with twists and turns that will keep our audience hooked from start to finish. We can’t wait for our customers to immerse themselves in this gripping new series.”
