Gabriel Iglesias Flaunts His Two Monte Carlo SS Dream Cars

Comedian Gabriel Iglesias, widely loved for his comedic talent and extensive collection of Volkswagen Type 2s, has recently unveiled a lesser-known segment of his assemblage: two pristine 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS cars, each with a rich history. In a recent episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, Iglesias shared the captivating stories behind these cars, both of which serve as a testament to his lifelong admiration for the Monte Carlo model.

Iglesias’ fondness for the Monte Carlo SS can be traced back to his childhood. While many may find it surprising that a successful comedian would cherish vehicles from a platform that was considered obsolete during its time, Iglesias’ deep-rooted connection to the model makes it all the more understandable. His childhood dream of owning a Monte Carlo SS not only came true but in a magnificent manner—as he managed to acquire not one, but two virtually untouched specimens, each with its own unique background.

These Monte Carlos initially belonged to identical twin brothers from Ohio, who not only shared the same appearance but also the same taste in cars. According to Iglesias, there’s an intriguing possibility that these vehicles were involved in a money laundering scheme, which adds an extra layer of intrigue to their story. Despite their age, these cars were driven sparingly, with one showcasing a mere 36 miles on the odometer and the other around 200 miles. When Iglesias acquired them, they still had their original interior delivery wraps intact, presenting a rare treasure for any car enthusiast.

During the show, Iglesias and Jay Leno had the opportunity to remove these delivery wraps for the first time, revealing the pristine condition of the interiors. The excitement didn’t stop there as the two then took the Monte Carlos for a drive through the streets of Los Angeles, putting their excellent preservation on full display. While an ’88 Monte Carlo SS may not be everyone’s dream car, for Iglesias and like-minded enthusiasts, these vehicles represent a unique and valuable part of automotive history.
