Gardner Minshew’s Shirtless Workout to Creed’s ‘Higher’ Stuns Fans

Recently named the Las Vegas Raiders’ starting quarterback, Gardner Minshew is gaining attention online for a workout video that’s memorable for several reasons.

In the video, Minshew, who was announced as the team’s starter on Sunday over Aidan O’Connell, is seen working out shirtless. Adding to the charm, Creed’s song “Higher” plays in the background, and Minshew sports an impressive mullet.

Minshew joined the Raiders this offseason on a two-year, $25 million deal to compete in a crowded quarterbacks room. Despite the competition, he secured the starting job over O’Connell.

However, the battle between Minshew and O’Connell was tightly contested throughout the offseason. At one point, it seemed O’Connell might emerge as the starter before head coach Antonio Pierce made his announcement on Sunday.

“Myself, Tom Telesco, and Luke Getsy discussed it this morning,” Pierce said of the choice to start Minshew. “A lot of things went into it. It wasn’t based off of last night; there are many factors. We feel like Gardner gives us the best opportunity to get off to a fast start, and that’s what we’re going with. We support him, our team’s behind it, our staff’s behind it, our organization’s behind it,” Pierce added.

Though Minshew will kick off the season as the starting quarterback, his grip on the position isn’t guaranteed. Should he struggle, the Raiders might turn to O’Connell, who started 10 games for the team during his rookie season.

Minshew is set to make his starting debut on Sunday, Sept. 8, when the Raiders face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1 at SoFi Stadium.
