Garret Dillahunt of Fear the Walking Dead joins ABC’s High Potential series

Deadline reports that Garret Dillahunt, best known for his role as John Dorie in “Fear the Walking Dead,” has been cast in a recurring role in the new ABC series “High Potential.” Dillahunt’s recent projects include “The Dead Don’t Hurt” with Viggo Mortensen and “Red Right Hand” starring Orlando Bloom and Andie McDowell.

“High Potential” is a new crime procedural created and written by Drew Goddard, known for “The Good Place” and “The Martian.” The series is based on the French show “Haut Potentiel Intellectuel” and is directed and produced by Alethea Jones. Rob Thomas is the showrunner and executive producer alongside Goddard, Sarah Esberg for Goodard Textiles, and Dan Etheridge.

The series stars Kaitlin Olson, renowned for her roles in “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “The Mick.” Olson’s character, Morgan, is a single mother who works as a police department cleaner. Her life takes a turn when by-the-book detective Karadec, played by Daniel Sunjata, recognizes her intellect and unconventional ability to solve crimes, prompting him to enlist her as a consultant. Together, they form an unstoppable crime-solving team.

Dillahunt will portray Lieutenant Melon, head of the Robbery Division at the LAPD precinct. Melon is depicted as somewhat of a jerk and holds a grudge against his colleague Selena, played by Judy Reyes. Selena was given the job of running Major Crimes, a position Melon believes he deserved.

“High Potential” will air on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC and will also be available for streaming on Hulu this fall.

Dillahunt has also appeared in six episodes of the Starz crime drama “Hightown” and the action thriller “Red Right Hand” alongside Orlando Bloom and Andie McDowell. He starred in “The Dead Don’t Hurt,” a project written, directed, produced, and composed by Viggo Mortensen, featuring fellow “Fear the Walking Dead” actor Ray McKinnon.

In 2023, Dillahunt appeared with Michael Peña and Rosa Salazar in the Prime Video original movie “A Million Miles Away,” which tells the story of José M. Hernández, the first Mexican-American astronaut. He also starred in “Gray Matter,” a sci-fi thriller streaming on Max.

Fans can also catch Dillahunt in the Freevee original series “Sprung” and several episodes of the Netflix series “Dead to Me.” Next, he will star in the psychological thriller “The Huntsman,” a Peacock thriller “Hysteria,” and “Sarah’s Oil.”
