‘General Hospital’ Fans Criticize Writers for Cutting the Wrong Character

General Hospital fans are never shy about voicing their opinions when they feel the show’s writers have misstepped. Recently, many viewers expressed their displeasure over the return of old characters and the elimination of younger ones. This week, fans were particularly upset when a beloved character was written out while a disliked villain remained. Let’s take a closer look at the latest changes that have ruffled some feathers among the audience.

Viewers are particularly unhappy about the departure of Alison Rogers, known as Blaze, portrayed by Jacqueline Grace Lopez. Blaze bid farewell to her former lover Kristina, played by Kate Mansi, as she prepared to go on tour, indicating she won’t be back anytime soon. However, fans are upset that the writers chose to remove Blaze instead of focusing on other characters.

Many fans believe that Blaze’s exit should have been replaced by her controversial mother, Natalia, played by Eva LaRue. Earlier in the season, Natalia was embroiled in controversy due to a homophobic speech, making her character less favorable among the audience.

The frustration spilled over to social media, especially on the show’s Instagram page. “So you go rid of Blaze to leave controlling Natalia behind? You got the wrong person GH,” one fan wrote. Another commented, “Blaze should have stayed and Natalia left.” A third viewer added, “Blaze is gone (temporarily I hope). There is no reason for Natalia & her homophobic views to stick around.”

Despite the character’s departure, some viewers are hopeful Blaze will make a return to Port Charles. Support for Jacqueline Grace Lopez was evident in comments like, “Really hope Blaze comes back, Jacqueline Grace Lopez has done an amazing job,” and “I still hope Jacqueline Grace Lopez isn’t leaving General Hospital.”

Some fans went to the extent of threatening to stop watching the show if Blaze doesn’t return. One viewer declared, “No Blaze, no General Hospital for me. I only watch the show for Jacqueline Grace Lopez #BringBackBlaze.”

However, it’s uncertain what the future holds for Blaze on General Hospital. Jacqueline Grace Lopez has exited and re-entered the show before, first appearing as Blaze in 2022, departing in April 2023, and returning in September 2023. There might be a possibility of her returning again in the future.

The decision to remove Blaze is part of a series of other casting changes on General Hospital. Fan favorites Bryan Craig and Jonathan Jackson are making their return in August.

However, Bryan Craig, known for his role as Morgan Corinthos, has returned for a limited run. Recently, he appeared as a ghost, and that is expected to be his only appearance this season.

Additionally, General Hospital is recasting Lulu Spencer. Emme Rylan, who has portrayed Lulu since 2013, confirmed the recasting news on Instagram. She expressed her disappointment but also mentioned the closure it brings. Rylan wrote, “Yes, it is true. GH has decided to recast Lulu. Although I am very disappointed with their choice, I am glad to finally have closure. (And thank goodness GH brought all of you fabulous people into my life! Love you guys!)”

While fans are dealing with these significant changes, the future holds uncertainties and potential surprises. Whether or not these shifts will appease the viewers, only time will tell. Until then, fans continue to voice their strong opinions, hoping to influence the direction of the beloved soap opera.
