George and Amal Clooney Remodel $8.3M Chateau to Mirror Lake Como Villa – Report

George and Amal Clooney, known worldwide as A-list celebrities, prefer to spend private family time with their seven-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella. The family is fortunate enough to own multiple stunning homes, providing them various beautiful options for quality time together.

One of their favorite retreats is their French chateau, located in the serene town of Brignoles in Provence. George, 63, and Amal, 46, acquired this gem situated on an 18th-century vineyard, encompassing more than 400 acres of breathtaking landscape.

The chateau itself is equally majestic, featuring multiple bedrooms, bathrooms, and reception rooms, plus an outhouse and garages for their vehicles. The couple bought this historic property in 2021 and brought in renovators to remodel the interiors, aiming to replicate the charming style of their villa on Lake Como in northern Italy.

According to Vincent Sauvestre of Terres & Domaines estate agents, the Clooneys employed designers to modernize the property. Vincent revealed to Paris Match that the renovations were done in an Italian style, akin to their Lake Como home. Villagers reportedly observed an influx of bodyguards and high-end decorators from Paris during these renovations.

Named Domaine Le Canadel, George and Amal secured this property for $8.3 million in August 2021. Despite the purchase being a well-kept secret for some time, it was later revealed that the family had been living there due to the privacy it affords them. Vincent shared that George sought a family home that captivated him with its beautiful living environment.

“He was initially supposed to sign the sales agreement in person on his 60th birthday, May 6, 2021. But due to COVID-19 restrictions, he had to proceed with a power of attorney contract,” Vincent explained to Paris Match.

Aerial shots of the estate highlight its grandeur with generous lawns, a full-size pool, a tennis court, a lake, an olive grove, and a 25-acre vineyard.

Notably, George Clooney’s name has also become synonymous with Lake Como. He purchased a villa there for about $10 million in 2002 and has since been a beloved local figure. Enamored by the picturesque lakes and the laidback Italian lifestyle, George found a serene refuge in northern Italy.

“Buying the villa in Laglio changed my life in a pleasant and unexpected way,” George said during a 2010 press conference for his film “The American.” He added that the Italian lifestyle significantly helped calm him and alleviate pressure.

The Lake Como complex boasts four adjacent villas, offering over 32,000 square feet of floor space and nearly 100,000 square feet, including a lakefront entrance, two docks, and a pier. The main villa alone features 25 rooms, a swimming pool, a large garage, a tennis court, and a full gym, not to mention a pizza room and plenty of intricate Italian detailing.

The Wall Street Journal estimated that this stunning property might now be worth over $100 million. In 2023, reports surfaced that the Clooneys had listed the Lake Como villa for sale, though there has been no confirmation regarding its sale yet.
