Glen Powell is seemingly everywhere these days, and yet he somehow didn’t know about Brat Summer, indicating just how much he has on his plate. The actor, known playfully as Brisket’s dad, has been whirlwind-touring the globe to promote Twisters. Despite his busy schedule, he hasn’t stopped working on other projects, including a potential Top Gun installment with his good friend Tom Cruise. These two never seem to take a break!

Recently, Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. During their chat, they were questioned about which would be released first: a follow-up to Normal People or another Top Gun sequel. Powell, with a focused demeanor, responded with, “I mean I have a date.” Edgar-Jones also stated there has been no news about another season of Normal People, much to the disappointment of Paul Mescal’s fans who cherish his work.

When the conversation shifted to discuss Top Gun 3, Powell chose to remain tight-lipped. “Absolutely not. We should go to the next question,” he quipped, possibly to prevent Tom Cruise from swooping in and whisking him away mid-interview.

Top Gun: Maverick hit theaters in 2022 and soared to become the first major post-pandemic blockbuster. This incredible success only fueled Tom Cruise’s already intense passion for cinema.

Earlier this year, producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that another Top Gun sequel is indeed in the pipeline, though it might take some time before it graces the big screen. Bruckheimer explained, “You never know when it’s going to get made because Tom is so busy. He’s doing Mission: Impossible right now, he’s got a picture after it. Hopefully, we’ll get a screenplay that he loves, and we’ll be back in the air again.” The next Mission: Impossible film is scheduled to release on May 23, 2025, adding to Cruise’s packed itinerary.

Meanwhile, Powell is set to be busy as well. He will be working on the film Huntington directed by John Patton Ford and later shooting The Running Man with Edgar Wright this fall. This solid work queue ensures that Powell remains occupied for the next few years. However, despite his demanding schedule, Powell emphasizes that his most important job remains being a father to Brisket. Family undeniably comes first for him.
