Glen Powell’s ‘Chad Powers’ Hulu Series Receives Major Production Update

The upcoming Chad Powers Hulu series starring Glen Powell, derived from an Eli Manning sketch, is now in production.

The official Chad Powers Instagram account shared that filming began on August 20, 2024. A picture of the clapperboard lying on the ground was posted, revealing the series’ logo, where the “o” in “Powers” is stylized as a football.

A caption simply read, “First day on set.”

With the series now in production, viewers can expect Chad Powers to hit Hulu sooner rather than later, adding to the hot streak Powell is currently riding.

The character of Chad Powers originated from a sketch featuring former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning. During a visit to Penn State, Manning attended their walk-on tryouts. However, instead of arriving as the two-time Super Bowl MVP, he went undercover, donning prosthetics and a wig to assume the identity of Chad Powers.

Most at the tryouts were blissfully unaware of Manning’s true identity. He amazed the coaches and players with his exceptional arm strength and pocket movement, a performance enhanced by his 16-season NFL career.

This ingenious sketch has now inspired a fictional series starring Glen Powell as a down-and-out quarterback attempting to revive his career.

Since his role in Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, Powell has quickly ascended to Hollywood stardom. His early career included roles in Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over and Fast Food Nation. Over the years, he took on supporting roles in high-profile films such as The Dark Knight Rises, The Expendables 3, Ride Along 2, and Hidden Figures.

In 2022, Powell reunited with Fast Food Nation director Richard Linklater for the Netflix movie Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood. That same year, he appeared in one of the highest-grossing films of the year, Top Gun: Maverick, and starred in Devotion alongside Jonathan Majors.

The following year, Powell and Linklater collaborated once more on Hit Man. They co-wrote the script, and Powell starred in the film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival before its release in theaters and on Netflix in 2024.

Later in 2023, Powell starred in the rom-com Anyone but You with Sydney Sweeney, which grossed over $220 million, leading to an upcoming sequel featuring both Powell and Sweeney.

In 2024, Powell continued his streak by starring in Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters as Tyler Owens, a storm-chasing social media influencer.

Chad Powers will mark Powell’s return to television. He previously starred in the first season of Scream Queens as Chad Radwell and had a recurring role in the show’s second season.
