GMA’s George Stephanopoulos’ Wife Shares Update After Family’s Difficult Time

George Stephanopoulos’ wife, Ali Wentworth, recently shared a serene update on social media amid a difficult time for their family. Just last weekend, Ali announced the passing of George’s beloved father. George, Ali, and their daughters, Elliott, 21, and Harper, 19, attended the funeral last week.

On Saturday, Ali posted a new photo on Instagram showcasing their dog running along the beach in Sagaponack, Long Island. The scene captured a calming ocean wave, and although Ali left the picture without a caption, it conveyed a lot to her followers. Many fans were quick to check in on Ali and George, offering their support and well-wishes.

Comments ranged from “You needed this!!” to hopeful messages like “Hope you are doing okay,” reflecting the concern and empathy from their followers.

George’s father, Reverend Robert George Stephanopoulos, passed away at the age of 89 on June 19. At the time, the family was on vacation in Europe. Shortly after Robert’s passing, Ali paid tribute on Instagram, highlighting his significant role within their family.

In her heartfelt post, Ali described Reverend Robert as a cherished father-in-law. Revered as Dean Emeritus at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Robert left an indelible mark on their lives. She shared: “He married us. He laughed with us. He debated our daughters. He praised my Thanksgiving turkey. He loved ice cream. He was everyone’s counsel. He married or baptized almost every Greek on the eastern seaboard. He was held in the highest regard. He will be missed by so many.”

Ali accompanied her tribute with several wedding photos from 2001, showing Reverend Robert officiating her and George’s wedding. The couple’s marriage was conducted just two months after they got engaged. This heartfelt tribute comes on the heels of another loss just a year earlier, when George’s mother, Presvytera Nikki, passed away.

An online obituary for Reverend Robert touching described his extensive contributions to the community. Over his 50-plus years in ministry, he inspired and counseled many people, celebrated numerous weddings and baptisms, and provided comfort during funerals.

Robert’s legacy continues through his surviving children – Mother Agapia, George, Marguarite, and Andrew – and his daughter-in-law Ali and grandchildren Elliott and Harper.

Last week, George was the sole main anchor on GMA, as his co-hosts Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan were absent. They are anticipated to return soon. During his solo week, George was accompanied by several substitute anchors, including Whit Johnson, Rebecca Jarvis, and Mary Bruce, who joined on Friday following the first live presidential debate.

George seemed particularly pleased to reunite with Mary Bruce, who had previously worked as a segment producer for his show This Week with George Stephanopoulos. Their camaraderie was evident as they engaged in animated conversation during the broadcast.
