Godzilla is enjoying a significant surge in popularity, boosted by the success of movies like “Godzilla Minus One” and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” The excitement continues with the release of a new series of Funko Pop figures. Celebrating its 70th anniversary, the Godzilla franchise has inspired a kaiju-sized wave of Pop figures and Mystery Minis featuring Godzilla incarnations from 1954 to 2016. As mentioned, “Godzilla Minus One” has seen remarkable success, having won an Academy Award for “Best Visual Effects.” Earlier this year, the film went up for pre-order on Blu-ray, which includes a stunning 4K UHD Blu-ray Limited Edition Steelbook release.

The listings for the 4K Steelbook edition, standard 4K edition, Blu-ray, and DVD editions are currently live on Walmart and Amazon. Although the Steelbook edition is sold out at the moment, it’s wise to check those links for a potential restock. Note that Walmart lists the release date as August 1st, 2025, though this is likely a placeholder that will be updated soon.

ComicBook recently had the chance to speak with “Godzilla Minus One” director Takashi Yamazaki. Yamazaki shared insights about his unique take on the iconic monster: “I feel that my Godzilla for this film is very specific to the story. Often, Godzilla movies tend to split the narrative between the monster and the human or government response. However, one of my goals was to balance the Godzilla storyline with human elements.”

He continued, “In ‘Godzilla Minus One,’ the focus is more on individual relationships and how people perceive Godzilla. It centers on civilians and their interactions with the monster, which I think is quite unique.”

“Godzilla Minus One” claimed an Academy Award for “Best Visual Effects,” delivering one of the most terrifying portrayals of the monster on a limited budget. The film isn’t entirely a remake of the original Godzilla, but it pays homage to the iconic creature’s origins. The critically acclaimed kaiju film is set in post-World War 2 Japan, focusing on a returning fighter pilot who finds his homeland in dire straits. Due to the devastating effects of the war, Japan is described as being at “Minus One” when the king of monsters emerges.
