GoldDerby Unveils Emmys 2024 Episode Submissions

Janelle James has exclusively chosen the “Abbott Elementary” episode “Career Day, Part 1” as her submission for the 2024 Emmy Award in the Best Comedy Supporting Actress category. This episode, which aired on February 7, marks the premiere of Season 3 of the popular ABC series.

In “Career Day, Part 1,” viewers are taken back five months to witness Ava’s transformation. After attending summer classes at Harvard, Ava (played by James) returns as the highly competent and organized principal that the teachers at Abbott Elementary had always hoped for. However, her new authoritative demeanor disrupts the usual lively atmosphere, prompting the teachers to conspire to bring back the old Ava. Their efforts initially fall short, until Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph) devises a plan to play Juvenile’s “Back That Azz Up,” a song Ava cannot ignore.

This nomination is James’ third in a row for her role in “Abbott Elementary,” positioning her against strong contenders such as her co-star Sheryl Lee Ralph, Carol Burnett (“Palm Royale”), Liza Colón-Zayas (“The Bear”), Hannah Einbinder (“Hacks”), and Meryl Streep (“Only Murders in the Building”).

The series “Abbott Elementary” has accrued 24 nominations over its three seasons, including nine for this year alone. This highlights the show’s consistent appeal and critical acclaim.

For those interested in the Emmys, the Television Academy encourages voters to view all submitted episodes within each category before casting their final votes.
