‘Good Bones’ Returns to HGTV with Major Changes

Good Bones is set to return to HGTV. However, as the show starring Mina Starsiak Hawk and her mother, Karen E. Laine, makes its comeback, there will be some significant changes.

For those who missed the show’s initial run, the mother-daughter team of Mina Starsiak Hawk and Karen E. Laine launched Good Bones in 2016. This came nine years after they founded Two Chicks and a Hammer, a home renovation company. The series featured the duo renovating houses around their home in Indianapolis.

In 2023, HGTV announced the show’s cancellation, causing some distress among the stars. Mina expressed her disappointment and shared with fans that she was filming the final scenes for Good Bones, believing the show was over for good. However, this issue wasn’t entirely due to the network.

Mina and her mother had a falling out. “There were definitely some challenging [moments] because my mom and I were in some of the most challenging places I felt we’ve been,” Mina shared via PEOPLE. She even described the situation as a “knockdown drag-out.”

Despite these issues, things appear to be returning to normal, and Good Bones is coming back to HGTV.

The returning series, titled Good Bones: New Beginnings, will feature some notable changes. Mina and Karen have decided to go their separate ways in this new iteration. They will be working on different projects in different states.

Mina will be focusing on updating a lake house north of Indianapolis, maintaining a sense of familiarity with the location. Meanwhile, Karen has left Indianapolis and is working on renovating a bungalow in Wilmington, North Carolina. These two towns are 754 miles apart, setting the stage for their new endeavors.

Good Bones: New Beginnings will consist of only three episodes. The first episode will spotlight Mina’s project, while the second and third episodes will follow Karen’s renovation journey. HGTV has not yet disclosed whether the two will appear on-screen together in this new series. Nevertheless, fans seem eager for the new episodes, even if Mina and Karen remain estranged.
