Great White Frontman Jack Russell Dies at 63

Jack Russell, former lead singer of the band Great White, died on August 15 at the age of 63. His family confirmed the news in an Instagram post, expressing their immense sadness. “With tremendous sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved Jack Patrick Russell,” they wrote, noting that he passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife, son, and other family members. According to K.L. Doty, who co-authored Russell’s memoir, the cause of death was identified as Lewy body dementia and multiple system atrophy, reported WBZ-TV.

Great White gained significant popularity during the 1980s and early 1990s, particularly with their hit cover of “Once Bitten, Twice Shy.” Jack Russell, however, was also infamously associated with the tragic Station Nightclub fire in 2003 that resulted in over 100 deaths and 200 injuries. In a gesture of remorse, Russell’s memoir, published weeks before his death, included an apology to the victims’ families. “I’m sorry for every gentle embrace of love no longer possible and that you dread every twentieth of February for more reasons than ice and snow,” he wrote, according to WBZ-TV.

More to come on Russell’s death…
