Green Day Announces Major ‘American Idiot’ News for 20th Anniversary

Green Day is set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their iconic album American Idiot with a new deluxe edition re-release. Available starting on October 25 from Warner Records, the album will come in several forms, including a 2LP vinyl and a “Super Deluxe Box Set” that features a Blu-ray containing a new documentary titled 20 Years of American Idiot. All these new releases can be pre-ordered now on the band’s website.

Fans of American Idiot can look forward to a treasure trove of new content. This includes unreleased demos, rare B-sides, live recordings, and bonus tracks. The re-release starts at $39.98 for the 20th Anniversary Color 2LP, offering the original album on two vinyl records decorated with a red and black splatter pattern.

Next up is the 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition CD, priced at $69.98. This edition features the original album along with 15 unreleased demos, 15 live recordings from a 2004 concert in New York City—9 of which are being released for the first time—and another 15 tracks previously shared as B-sides and bonus tracks. The set also includes two Blu-ray discs with three video features: a 35-minute recording of a live performance broadcast by the BBC, the 2015 documentary Heart Like a Hand Grenade, and the new documentary 20 Years of American Idiot.

The 20th Anniversary One-Step Edition of American Idiot is available for $124.98. This edition includes a specially re-mastered version of the original album for vinyl. The pinnacle of these releases is the 20th Anniversary Super Deluxe Box Set, priced at $199.98. It contains all the special features mentioned above plus a massive eight-LP collection and a 36-page book. Collectibles included in this set are a Green Day flag, an exclusive poster, and the iconic American Idiot red tie. Alternatively, the CD box set offers an enamel pin set, a sticker sheet, a cloth patch, and a 48-page book.

Originally released in 2004, American Idiot was praised for revitalizing pop-punk music and motivating a new generation to become politically active. The album is currently available on most major music streaming services, while the 20th-anniversary editions are available for pre-order now and will be delivered on October 25.
