Gwyneth Paltrow Joins Timothée Chalamet in A24’s ‘Marty Supreme’

After a few years away from the big screen, Academy Award winner Gwyneth Paltrow is making a highly anticipated return to cinema. Paltrow, who won an Oscar for her role in Shakespeare in Love, is set to star alongside Timothée Chalamet in A24’s new film Marty Supreme, directed by Josh Safdie.

The film will be Paltrow’s first major role since playing Pepper Potts in Avengers: Endgame back in 2019. While specific plot details remain a closely guarded secret, the film is reportedly loosely inspired by professional ping pong player Marty Reisman. However, insiders stress that it is a fictionalized story rather than a direct biopic. At this time, Paltrow’s specific role in the film has not been disclosed.

Josh Safdie, along with Ronald Bronstein, wrote the script and will produce the film together with Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Timothée Chalamet, and A24.

This project marks an important milestone for Josh Safdie. Known for the critically acclaimed films Uncut Gems and Good Time that he co-directed with his brother Benny Safdie and which were also produced by A24, Marty Supreme will be Safdie’s first solo directorial work since The Pleasure of Being Robbed in 2008. The Safdie brothers recently announced their decision to pursue independent directing careers, although they will continue collaborating on productions through their company, Elara Pictures.

Gwyneth Paltrow has had a prolific and diverse career. She first gained widespread acclaim playing Viola de Lesseps in Shakespeare in Love, a role that earned her an Academy Award. She also received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in Proof, another film directed by John Madden. Paltrow is widely recognized for her role as Pepper Potts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting in the character in 2008’s Iron Man.

Her other noteworthy film credits include standout performances in The Royal Tenenbaums, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Se7en, Shallow Hal, Great Expectations, Emma, Sliding Doors, and Contagion.

On television, Paltrow most recently appeared in Netflix’s The Politician, created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan. She also won an Emmy Award in 2011 for her guest role in the popular musical series Glee on Fox.

Paltrow is represented by CAA, Lighthouse Management & Media, Gang, Tyre, Ramer, and Latham & Watkins.
