Harris Leads Trump by 4 Points, Unchanged Since Before Dem Convention: Poll

Vice President Kamala Harris has not experienced a notable increase in support following the Democratic National Convention, yet she maintains a slight lead over former President Donald Trump according to a recent national poll.

An ABC News/Ipsos poll released on Sunday reveals that Harris is ahead of Trump by 50 percent to 46 percent among all adults and registered voters. In terms of likely voters, her lead expands to 52 percent against Trump’s 46 percent.

The pollsters highlighted that these results are comparable and statistically unchanged from an earlier poll conducted in August. In an ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos survey before the convention, Harris had garnered 49 percent support among registered voters, while Trump trailed with 45 percent.

Following the Democratic National Convention, observers have closely monitored polling data to evaluate whether the vice president would receive the post-convention bump that can often benefit candidates. This particular poll was conducted beginning on August 23, the day after the final night of the convention.

While most data remained stable since the convention, the poll indicated that Harris widened the gender gap among voters. She holds a 13-point advantage among women, garnering support from 54 percent compared to Trump’s 41 percent. Conversely, Trump leads by 5 points among men, getting 51 percent to Harris’s 46 percent. Before the convention, Harris had only a 6-point lead with female voters.

In evaluating the effectiveness of their campaigns, Harris received more favorable ratings. A significant 56 percent of Americans said they believe she has done an excellent or good job managing her campaign, whereas only 41 percent felt similarly about Trump, with many expressing a more negative view of his campaign efforts.

On issues key to voters, Trump outperformed Harris regarding trust in handling important matters like the economy and inflation, with an 8-point lead in both areas. Additionally, he led Harris by 9 points in public trust regarding the U.S.-Mexico border situation.

However, Harris was perceived as more trustworthy than Trump in areas such as protecting American democracy and appointments to the Supreme Court, according to the poll’s findings.

The trend of polling continues to show Harris maintaining a narrow edge over Trump. The former president has largely dismissed the modest uptick in support for the vice president, seeing it as inconsequential.

As per a polling index compiled by The Hill and Decision Desk HQ, Harris currently holds a 3.8-point national lead over Trump.

The ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted between August 23 and August 27, encompassing 2,496 completed interviews. The margin of sampling error stands at 2.1 percentage points with a 95 percent confidence level.
