Harrison Ford Talks Playing Red Hulk in ‘Captain America: Brave New World’

Harrison Ford understands why some fans might be drawn to his Red Hulk transformation in “Captain America: Brave New World.”

The legendary actor attended San Diego Comic-Con 2024 over the weekend to promote the much-anticipated Marvel project. There, he spoke with ET’s Ash Crossan about his bulked-up, gamma-irradiated look in the recent trailer.

When asked how he felt about fans who think he looks super hot all Hulked out, Ford replied, “Well, you’re not wrong.”

“I just gotta lay off the gym though, I think,” he added with a laugh.

Ford is joining the MCU as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, a role originally played by the late William Hurt. Hurt portrayed Ross in “The Incredible Hulk,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Avengers: Endgame,” and “Black Widow.”

The “Indiana Jones” star will first appear as Ross in the upcoming “Captain America: Brave New World.” Anthony Mackie, who also stars in the film, shared what it’s been like working alongside the action movie legend. Mackie posted an on-set picture of them watching dailies together.

“It’s been a lot of fun,” Mackie shared. “I thought Harrison would be the old curmudgeon, angry dude, but he’s not at all. He makes fun of people, and he allows people to make fun of him. Whenever he’s ready to roll, he’s like, ‘Let’s shoot this piece of sh*t!’ And everybody’s like, yay, Harrison’s ready to shoot!”

In the film, Ford’s Ross has been elected president, and it was confirmed at Comic-Con that the Red Hulk seen in previous trailers is indeed Ross.

Ford will also reprise his role as Ross in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster “Thunderbolts,” which will feature some of the MCU’s biggest anti-heroes and semi-reformed villains teaming up to fight world-threatening enemies.

“Captain America: Brave New World” hits theaters on February 14, 2025. Meanwhile, “Thunderbolts” is set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
