HBO’s First Footage of The Last of Us Season Two Sends Fans into Frenzy

HBO has unveiled first look footage for two highly anticipated shows set to debut next year.

In a newly released trailer, serving as a preview for the streaming service’s 2024-2025 season, fans got their first glimpse at season three of The White Lotus and season two of The Last of Us.

Both series will be available on Max in 2024 and are expected to be broadcast in the UK on Sky Atlantic.

The Last of Us, an adaptation of the acclaimed zombie apocalypse video game, was a breakout hit for the network when it premiered in January last year. The show earned critical acclaim and garnered 24 nominations at the Emmy Awards.

The sneak peek reveals the return of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, respectively.

Also seen in the 20-second snippet are Isabela Merced as Dina, Ellie’s love interest, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, a character he voiced in The Last of Us Part II video game.

Kathryn Dever makes a brief appearance as Abby, alongside Catherine O’Hara in an unspecified role.

In a notable moment, O’Hara’s character questions Joel: “Did you hurt her?” seemingly referring to Ellie. Joel, visibly emotional, responds: “I saved her.” Fans of the game will remember Joel delivering this line to his brother Tommy, portrayed by Gabriel Luna.

Players have pointed out the remarkable visual fidelity of season two to scenes from the video game and cautioned viewers to brace for an emotionally intense season.

“Let me just say you’re not f***ing ready for what’s to come, arguably one of the hardest pills to swallow and I love every bit of it,” said one enthusiast.

Fans of The White Lotus were also treated to a sneak peek of its highly awaited third season, set in Thailand.

“What happens in Thailand stays in Thailand,” one character says in the clip, which features scenes set in opulent hotels and a Muay Thai boxing ring.

Parker Posey, Jason Isaacs, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Sam Nivola appear in the brief teaser, along with season one’s Natasha Rothwell.

It’s shaping up to be an action-packed year for Max, which has several new shows lined up including Colin Farrell’s The Penguin (debuting September 19), Dune: Prophecy (November), The Franchise, and Creature Commandos (December).

Next year’s lineup includes Duster, The Pitt, and the Stephen King adaptation It: Welcome to Derry.

Viewers may be intrigued by the teaser for the Game of Thrones spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which has received limited promotion ahead of its release next year.

The preview also hinted at upcoming seasons of Industry, My Brilliant Friend, Harley Quinn, The Sex Lives of College Girls, and The Gilded Age.

Excitement is building for what promises to be a thrilling schedule of content, keeping fans eagerly anticipating their favorite series’ return and the debut of several new titles.
