Heels’ Netflix Premiere Date Announced

Netflix invites you back into the ring on Sunday, Sept. 15, when both seasons of Heels, the cancelled Starz wrestling drama, debut on the streamer.

Created by Michael Waldron (Loki), Heels followed Jack Spade (played by Arrow‘s Stephen Amell), an indie wrestler competing with his younger brother Ace (Vikings‘ Alexander Ludwig) to run their family-owned wrestling promotion in small-town Georgia.

Season 2, which aired last summer, saw Jack and Ace “continue to fight over their late father’s legacy and their individual versions of success, while also working to find their own identity as a ‘face’ or a ‘heel,’” per the official synopsis.

The season ended on a shocking cliffhanger, with one of the Aces’ future in jeopardy after attempting a dangerous move from the top rope.

In the wake of Heels‘ cancellation last September, showrunner Mike O’Malley, who also played FWD promoter/main antagonist Charlie Gully, said he was actively seeking a new home for the show. “I really do think it’s going to have a life someplace else,” O’Malley previously told Entertainment Weekly.

Even if Heels puts up big numbers on Netflix, it looks unlikely that the streamer would revive the series for a third season. Amell stars in the Suits spinoff Suits: LA, which just got a series order, while Ludwig will headline the MGM+ limited series Earth Abides, based on the George R. Stewart novel.

Heels should fit right in at Netflix, which earlier this year struck a deal with WWE to move the wrestling giant’s flagship show Monday Night Raw from USA Network to the streamer in 2025. Netflix will also become the exclusive home for all WWE programming (including SmackDown, NXT, WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Royal Rumble) outside the U.S.
