Her Red Carpet Style Evolution: From 2002 Oscars to Versace and More

Halle Berry has long been admired for her work in front of and behind the camera. The filmmaker and Oscar-winning actress’ career spans more than three decades, with memorable performances on the big and small screen. But Berry’s red carpet style has also become synonymous with her star power and persona. She often wears ornate pieces by high-profile designers like Atelier Versace, Elie Saab, and more.

To celebrate Berry’s 58th birthday on Wednesday, WWD looks back at some of her standout red carpet looks through the years.

In 2002, Berry wore what is now considered one of the most famous Oscar dresses of all time. The night she became the first African American woman to win the Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, Berry wore an ornate gown courtesy of Elie Saab. The dress featured a deep-red skirt with a mesh and intricately embroidered bodice.
