How HGTV Star Galey Alix’s Engagement Tragically Ended

The following article includes discussion of eating disorders.

HGTV’s Galey Alix appears to have found her perfect match in “The Bachelorette” alum Dale Moss. The couple celebrated their two-year anniversary on April 8, 2024. Alix took to Instagram to mark the special occasion, posting, “Happy 2 years of me being funnier than you,” along with a reel highlighting their cutest moments. Moss also shared a heartfelt anniversary message, writing, “Loving you is the easiest thing in the world for me. Just the beginning of so much more life together. ILYSM.”

Alix revealed that she first met Moss by taking some DIY initiative and sliding into his Instagram DMs after hearing him on a podcast. “I just remember thinking, ‘This person is so well-spoken,'” Alix told People in 2023. They started talking and eventually grew very close. One of the many things that attracted Alix to Moss, who is also a model and former football player, was that both had been engaged before. While Moss was engaged to Clare Crawley on “The Bachelorette” in 2020, their relationship ended in 2021. Alix’s story, however, is much more tragic.

What should have been happily ever after turned into a painful chapter for Galey Alix when her engagement suddenly fell apart in 2021. Reflecting on the heartbreak, Alix admitted to People in 2023 that her ex-fiancé broke up with her after she confided in him about her issues with anorexia and bulimia. He told her he did not want to marry her anymore because he felt she had been dishonest by hiding her struggle.

The couple was scheduled to marry shortly thereafter, and Alix had just moved from Florida to Connecticut to be with her then-partner. “So that day, I moved back to Florida with my dogs, but without my fiancé, without my career, without my health, and without the home I had just worked so hard on,” she said, adding, “It was by far the lowest point of my life.” Despite the setback, Alix sought professional help, seeing a therapist to address her issues and quitting social media to focus on her mental health. She returned to her previous job in Florida as vice president of an investment banking firm.

Emerging from her social media hiatus, Galey Alix was surprised to find herself inundated with requests to work on other people’s homes after videos of her design and renovation skills went viral on Instagram. This marked the beginning of her career as a DIY expert and interior designer. “It was an out-of-body experience,” Alix told Business Insider. “The more I dove into the DMs, the more I started to feel like I was watching a movie about someone else’s story and seeing how it all started.” At the same time, she found love again with Dale Moss, who Alix considers her biggest supporter.

Moss has been helping with some of Alix’s home projects for her new HGTV show, despite his busy schedule. “So to say that I lucked out in meeting him when I did would be an understatement,” Alix acknowledged during a 2023 chat with People. Despite her past heartbreak, Alix hasn’t lost faith in love or ruled out the possibility of marriage. “I definitely get anxiety thinking about the idea of marriage,” she admitted. “So I don’t know if that’s in the cards for me. But I do know that I deserve to be happy and to love myself.”
