How Snoop Dogg Stays Incognito at His Grandkids’ Birthday Parties

After spending decades in the spotlight as a musician and media personality, Snoop Dogg knows he’s an easily recognizable figure, a reality that only intensified as he began covering the 2024 Summer Olympics for NBC in Paris, France.

While the 52-year-old rapper embraces the fame, he’s aware that it’s not always the best fit for his younger family members—especially in situations where the focus is supposed to be on them.

During a May appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” hitmaker explained that when he first began attending his grandkids’ parties, the young partygoers’ parents would recognize him right away and excitedly approach him to request photos.

With renewed attention on Snoop Dogg and his Olympics commentary in early August, The Tonight Show reshared a clip from that May interview on TikTok just hours before the Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony was due to begin on Sunday, August 11.

“The parents would rush me, and, ‘Oh my god, it’s Snoop Dogg! Let me have a picture!’” Snoop Dogg recalled while speaking with late-night host Jimmy Fallon in the clip. “So I had to figure out a way to take Snoop Dogg out of the party.”

As Fallon revealed in a series of Snoop Dogg’s family photos he then showed to the audience, the musician set about achieving his goal by dressing up in full-body costumes that matched the parties’ themes. Snoop Dogg wasn’t recognizable while wearing the Toy Story alien, giraffe, and shark costumes seen in the photos, indicating his strategy had worked.

Snoop Dogg, who has four children and seven grandchildren, told Fallon that he finds his role as a grandfather in general especially rewarding.

“That’s the most refreshing part about my career now, is being a grandfather,” he said. “Not the accolades, not the appearances, but just to have grandkids who really love me and appreciate me and look up to me.”
