Huey Lewis to Star in ‘Curb’ Style TV Show

Singer Huey Lewis is stepping into the spotlight again, but this time in a mockumentary-style sitcom.

The rocker will be playing a fictionalized version of himself in Whatever Happened to Huey Lewis. According to Deadline, the show will adopt a “Curb Your Enthusiasm” approach, detailing Lewis’ attempts to adjust to “his new life after losing his hearing.”

As reported, with the help of his codependent family and eccentric celebrity friends, Huey will tackle this hilarious next phase with his signature Heart and Soul.

This plot closely mirrors Lewis’ own life. Diagnosed with Meniere’s disease in 2018, the singer has experienced significant hearing loss and has not been able to tour since revealing his condition.

Lewis will not only star in the show but also serve as an executive producer, alongside notable Hollywood figures, including late night television host Jimmy Kimmel. Kirker Butler (Only Murders in the Building, Family Guy) will be responsible for writing and producing the show.

Acting isn’t a new frontier for Lewis. He has made appearances on several TV shows such as One Tree Hill and The King of Queens. He had a recurring role on the sitcom Hot in Cleveland and was featured in the films Short Cuts and Duets. Fans may also recall his cameo in the 1985 classic Back to the Future, which featured two of his well-loved tracks: “The Power of Love” and “Back in Time.”

In 2020, Lewis released his most recent album, Weather. Earlier this year, a jukebox musical based on his music catalog premiered on Broadway. Titled The Heart of Rock and Roll, the play began in April but concluded its run in June.
