Hugh Jackman Shares Tough Reality for Next Marvel Wolverine Actor

Hugh Jackman has offered some candid advice for the next actor to take on the role of Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor, best known for his roles in The Greatest Showman and X-Men, recently returned to the role in the film Deadpool and Wolverine.

In a conversation with Discussing Film, Jackman expressed confidence that Marvel will find another actor for Wolverine eventually. This was echoed by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who, although stating there are no immediate plans to replace Jackman, noted it is an “inevitable” decision down the line.

Jackman believes the next Wolverine will be portrayed in a different style and manner. As the first actor to bring the character to life on the big screen, Jackman remains the definitive Wolverine, having played the character since the year 2000.

For whoever steps into Wolverine’s shoes next, Jackman advised against attempting a “Hugh Jackman as Wolverine impression,” calling it a pretty big mistake.

Hugh Jackman started his journey as Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men, becoming one of the foundation stones of Fox’s cinematic universe. His tenure as Wolverine lasted until 2017, appearing in six X-Men movies along with a standalone trilogy centered on the character.

Jackman’s initial run ended with 2017’s Logan, directed by James Mangold. Fans thought this was his final appearance as Wolverine until the announcement of Deadpool and Wolverine.

Beyond Wolverine, Jackman is celebrated for his roles in The Prestige, Les Misérables, Prisoners, and The Greatest Showman. He has also voiced characters in animated movies like Flushed Away, Happy Feet, and Rise of the Guardians.

In 2019, Jackman embarked on his inaugural concert tour. Over the course of 90 dates, he performed across Europe, North America, and Oceania from May 7 through October 20, 2019.

The show included musical numbers from The Greatest Showman, his Broadway career, and various Hollywood musical hits, accompanied by a live orchestra.

Returning to Wolverine, Jackman collaborates with Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool and Wolverine, marking his first appearance as the character in over seven years. Directed by Shawn Levy, who previously worked with Jackman on Real Steel (2011), the movie bridges Jackman’s Wolverine into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Levy, recognized for his contributions to the Stranger Things franchise, also directed the Night at the Museum series and Free Guy. He co-wrote the script for Deadpool and Wolverine with Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells.

The new movie picks up where Deadpool 2 left off, with Wade Wilson (played by Reynolds) having saved his fiancée Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) and his X-Force friends using Cable’s time machine.

These actions catch the attention of the Time Variance Authority (TVA), who then recruit Deadpool for a mission. This mission has significant implications for his original universe and sends Deadpool to the Sacred Timeline, prompting him to seek the aid of Wolverine (Jackman) once again.

In the movie, the duo confronts Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin), the twin sister of Charles Xavier. Matthew Macfadyen also features as Mr. Paradox, a TVA agent.

Deadpool and Wolverine is anticipated to be a major hit, with forecasts predicting a significant $360 million opening. This success would be a substantial boost for Marvel movies, which have seen lukewarm box office performance recently.
