Huma Abedin and Alex Soros Announce Engagement

Former Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin and Alex Soros, the son of billionaire George Soros, are engaged.

The couple made their announcement on Instagram on Wednesday. Soros posted: “This happened…we couldn’t be happier, more grateful, or more in love” accompanied by heart and ring emojis.

Abedin, 47, and Soros, 38, are well-known figures in both political and business circles. The two initially met in the fall of 2023 at a friend’s birthday celebration. According to Vogue, they quickly bonded over shared interests in politics and public service. They’ve since posted several photos together, including moments from Valentine’s Day in Paris and a State Dinner at the White House honoring the Kenyan President and First Lady.

In late May, Soros proposed to Abedin in New York City. Shortly after, the couple celebrated their engagement with a festivity in Italy, as reported by Vogue.

Abedin has an extensive history with Hillary Clinton, having worked closely with her during her tenure as Secretary of State at the White House.

She was previously married to Anthony Weiner, a former New York congressman who faced legal issues. Weiner was sentenced to prison in 2017 for sexting a minor. Abedin separated from Weiner the year prior, amidst the scandal involving him. Together, they have a son.

Alex Soros holds a prominent position as chair of the Board of Directors of The Open Society Foundations. Founded by his father, George Soros, the organization is a philanthropic network that supports democratic values and frequently donates to Democratic candidates and campaigns.
