Hunter Schafer Reveals Rare Details About Dominic Fike Breakup

Hunter Schafer recently reflected on her past relationship with Euphoria co-star Dominic Fike, describing their breakup as particularly difficult.

The 25-year-old actress and 28-year-old singer went public with their romance in 2022 after collaborating on the second season of the Max series. Speaking on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Hunter mentioned that Dominic was her first committed relationship. Before this, she had only engaged in polyamorous relationships, which she found beneficial as they allowed her to date someone who comprehended her and her gender identity.

The “Mona Lisa” singer, who had previously dated cisgender women, was very supportive and understanding of Hunter. Despite this, their relationship ended in July 2023, primarily due to infidelity. Hunter recounted, “It’s one of the cleaner breakups I’ve had. We both recognized that this is not working, and we can’t do this. We had to go our own separate ways. It was so, so hard because we really loved each other. He’s a really special person, and I love his soul and everything.”

Another contributing factor to their breakup was the demanding nature of their careers, which often kept them apart. Dominic’s music career involved extensive touring, while Hunter’s acting commitments also required significant time. “The thing that’s tough with musicians — or at least with successful musicians who are doing tours and stuff — and I guess it’s the same thing with actors. They have to go off for however many months on tour, and then I’m working. It’s very hard,” Hunter explained.

Their split initially came to light when Dominic hinted at the breakup during an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music. He remarked, “That has actually bled into my romantic relationships, that kind of dynamic…And it is often the cause of the end of my relationships. I’m just done being in relationships right now.”

Hunter also touched upon the challenges of having a high-profile relationship, given the scrutiny that comes with being a public figure. She admitted uncertainty about whether she would ever share such personal details publicly again. Speaking to podcast host Alex Cooper, Hunter said, “You can try to hide it, but I’ve also come to this point just with fame in general, where, like, people are going to say what they’re going to say. I really don’t give a sh*t.”
