I Aspire to Be Like Hannah Montana

While many stars draw inspiration from their predecessors, Chappell Roan holds a unique admiration for Miley Cyrus’ Disney Channel alter ego, Hannah Montana. Roan recently expressed her deep-rooted influence from the character while introducing Cyrus for her Disney Legend induction at this year’s D23 convention. Over a decade after her first concert experience at Miley’s Hannah Montana concert, Roan continues to be inspired by that iconic identity-switching TV character.

“[Miley’s Best Of Both Worlds Tour] was my first concert ever,” Roan reminisced. “She came down in a box from the ceiling. I was like, ‘How do I do that one day?’ I still think about it. I still think about the show. I want to be like Hannah Montana.”

Roan’s admiration for Cyrus is evident in her bold visual presentation, and she uses her pop star persona to create a buffer from the pressures of fame. “The thing that I admire about Miley Cyrus is that she constantly reinvents herself and always works,” she said. “For a lot of artists, it can seem inauthentic or out of the blue, but she’s very open about her transformations artistically and personally. She puts out music that is so authentic.”
