I Believe I Should Be President in Real Life

Sexyy Red recently shared insights with NME about her ‘Sexyy Red 4 President’ mixtape and her goal to make music sexy again.

Earlier this month, Red made a surprising appearance during Don Toliver’s set on the final day of the Wireless festival, performing some of her viral hits. She had to cancel her own set the previous day due to travel issues. The St. Louis rapper later explained to BBC Newsbeat that she faced some “racist shit” at the airport and was “on time” for her flight.

In May, Red released her third mixtape, ‘Sexyy Red 4 President,’ featuring collaborations with artists like Drake and Lil Baby. Speaking about the record, Red told NME, “It was fun. I think I should be the President in real life.”

When prompted to share her ideas for a potential presidential manifesto, Red stated that she is “for the people, for real” and assured, “Just know, I fight for you.”

Her first executive action would be “freeing all the real n****as,” including her “baby daddy.” She also proposed creating a national holiday called “Sexyy Day.”

The ‘Get It Sexyy’ artist has been using the slogan “Make America Sexyy Again” during her recent promotional activities. During her festival performances this year, she often has an inflatable cap with this slogan on stage, reminiscent of the red hats Donald Trump used during his 2016 Presidential campaign.

Many critics accused the 26-year-old of endorsing Trump’s controversial politics with her parody campaign, but Red denied the claims, tweeting, “I’m not endorsing anybody, period.”

Backstage at Wireless, the media were advised by her security to avoid questions about Trump, politics, Drake, or his feud with Kendrick Lamar. This directive came after an incident where one outlet attempted to ask Red about Trump following an assassination attempt on him at a Philadelphia rally.

When NME asked what she meant by making music “Sexyy again,” she responded, “It’s all about confidence – go shake that ass, get your hair done, get your nails done and get some money.”

One group Red has always aimed to highlight is mothers. In her last conversation with NME, she explained why she and Summer Walker showcased their children in the music video for their 2022 collaboration ‘Sense Dat God Gave You.’ Red wanted to demonstrate that “mothers can be sexy,” adding, “Nowadays, girls can get pregnant and still be reckless.”

Red gave birth to her second child, a daughter, in February but hasn’t let motherhood hinder her stardom.

“I ain’t gonna lie: when you have a kid, it could throw your confidence off like you looking different and stuff,” she told NME. “But you got to still turn up – you got to still take care of them kids and still get to keep yourself up to par.”

Regarding her future plans, Red confirmed she is working on new music, saying she has “just got shit in the chamber” that reflects her current feelings.

The self-proclaimed Ghetto Princess is nearing the end of her worldwide festival tour and is set to perform at Lollapalooza in Chicago this weekend (August 1).

Following that, she will embark on her own 23-date tour, beginning in Seattle, Washington on August 22, and visiting cities such as New York, Miami, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia. The ‘Sexyy Red 4 President Tour’ will conclude in Nashville, Tennessee, on October 1.

Recently, the ‘Hellcat SRTs’ star addressed rumors about possibly canceling the tour due to low ticket sales, suggesting that “bigger companies” might be trying to retaliate against her for choosing Black promoters AEG Entertainment.
