‘I Have Been Struggling Deeply’

Fifteen months after welcoming her first baby, Holland, Ireland Baldwin is still finding her footing in the vast landscape of motherhood. The 28-year-old model bared her heart in a candid new blog post, sharing her struggles and emotions as she navigates this new life chapter.

Baldwin recently reached out to her Substack email subscribers, acknowledging her absence. She explained, “I guess you could say I have been… engulfed by motherhood. I mean like Godzilla crushing up and swallowing up a school bus of small children.” Her words painted a vivid and poignant picture of her overwhelming experience.

Transitioning from a modeling career to becoming a full-time writer has been a significant shift for Baldwin. She credits her “partner/baby daddy/boyfriend,” RAC (born André Allen Anjos), for supporting this change. “As a stay-at-home mom who is, like I said, ENGULFED in motherhood, I need this more than you’ll know,” she confided. She hopes other creative moms understand her need for this outlet.

Despite her passion for writing, Baldwin has found it challenging to stick to her intended schedule of posting weekly updates. “I have been deeply struggling with time management and finding any time to do anything for myself,” she admitted. Even with travel and summer adventures, her thoughts remain preoccupied with motherhood.

“Every single minute of the day is spent thinking about my daughter,” Baldwin shared. From questions about Holland’s diet to concerns about her safety, Baldwin’s mind is constantly racing. “What am I feeding her next? Did she eat enough? Where’s her water? Is that a bump on her head? Is she concussed? What if she slips into a coma in her sleep?”

The mental load of parenthood is exhausting, a sentiment many moms can relate to. “I honestly don’t know how us moms do it,” Baldwin wrote. She noted that all her “patience, focus, thought stream, excitement, craziness, and energy” goes to her little girl.

The model cheekily signed off as the “CEO of having one brain cell left,” a sentiment that resonates with many parents juggling the demands of young children. Parenting young kids is a significant challenge, but Baldwin’s honesty about her journey raises awareness of the mental and emotional toll it takes.

Baldwin, daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, has been candid about her postpartum journey. In February, she shared a photo of herself in undergarments, nine months postpartum, expressing that she’s working towards her fitness goals. “Not necessarily working out every day, but making strides to be more consistent. Walk more. Move more.”

She continued to encourage others struggling with postpartum body image. “Just wanted to do a solidarity post with anyone who’s having a tough time getting inspired to change bad habits/work on yourself,” she wrote. “I still have days where I binge eat an entire box of Girl Scout cookies for dinner but that’s OK!”

Baldwin emphasized the significance of self-care and self-compassion. “This sh*t is HARD. Be kind to yourself,” she advised. Her raw admission serves as a powerful reminder that motherhood is a demanding journey, filled with constant self-doubt and evolving challenges.

No matter what phase of motherhood you are in, Baldwin’s story is a testament to resilience and self-awareness. You’ve got this, moms!
