Ina Garten’s Scrambled Eggs Stir Online Debate

Everyone seems to have their own secret to perfect scrambled eggs. Celebrity chefs are no different. Recently, Ina Garten shared her method for making scrambled eggs on TikTok via @foodnetwrk, sparking mixed reactions from viewers.

Ina starts by using around two eggs per person, cracking them cold from the refrigerator into a bowl and whisking them together. She adds half and half, opting for this instead of milk to enhance the richness of the eggs. She also seasons the mixture with salt and pepper.

She melts some butter in a skillet over very low heat and then pours in the egg mixture. The crucial part of her process, she explains, is letting the eggs warm up slowly in the pan for a few minutes before stirring. Once they’re warm, she stirs them slowly at first, then quickly just before they’re fully cooked.

“You have to be very patient, and I’m not one for patience,” Ina admits. “But for this, it’s really worth it.”

A key tip she offers is to turn off the heat just before the eggs are completely done. The residual heat from the pan will continue cooking them gently. She finishes by adding two tablespoons of cold truffle butter to stop the cooking. If truffle butter isn’t available, regular butter will also suffice.

Despite the straightforward instructions, some viewers were less than thrilled with the result. Some complained that the eggs appeared too runny and undercooked for their liking.

“I’d have to cook them longer, too loose for me,” one commenter remarked.

“The only way I eat eggs that raw is in cookie dough,” another person chimed in. Others echoed similar sentiments, suggesting the eggs needed additional cooking time.

However, not everyone was critical. Some defended Ina’s method, drawing comparisons to other renowned chefs.

“I’ve been making them for years and they’re so good,” one user commented. Another added, “I love a soft scramble but completely understand the aversion some may have.”

Even fans from abroad weighed in. “I’m from France and this is the correct way to cook eggs and they really are delicious,” commented an international viewer.

The debate over the perfect scrambled eggs continues: how do you like yours? Are soft scrambled eggs a hit or a miss in your kitchen?
