Introducing the First-Time Emmy Nominees of 2024

The 76th Emmy Awards nominations have presented numerous first-time nominees this year, with the Television Academy awarding recognition to 36 individuals who have never been nominated before.

Shōgun leads the pack with five first-time nominees, closely followed by Netflix’s Baby Reindeer, which has four. Apple TV+’s The Morning Show and Hulu’s Only Murders In The Building each have three new nominees. Additionally, The Bear and Feud: Capote vs. The Swans from FX, HBO Max’s True Detective: Night Country, Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry, and Netflix’s The Crown each boast two first-time nominees.

Among the first-time nominees:

Eric André is renowned for creating, hosting, and co-writing The Eric André Show. The show, an Adult Swim comedy series, has run for six seasons and now brings André his nominations for Outstanding Performer In A Short Form Comedy Or Drama Series and Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama Or Variety Series.

Tadanobu Asano, nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series for his role as Kashigi Yabushige in Shōgun, has had a noteworthy career in international cinema, including portrayals in several Marvel films and a role in the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot.

Jonathan Bailey is recognized for his role in Fellow Travelers, earning him a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie. Bailey gained international fame for playing Anthony, Viscount Bridgerton on Netflix’s Bridgerton.

Nicole Beharie, nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series for her role in The Morning Show, is best known for her leading role in Fox’s Sleepy Hollow and her appearance in Netflix’s Black Mirror.

Matt Berry, known for his role as Laszlo in FX’s What We Do In The Shadows, earns a nod for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series. Berry is acclaimed for his work in The IT Crowd and Toast of London.

Lionel Boyce stars in The Bear and is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series. Boyce is also a member of the hip-hop collective Odd Future.

Néstor Carbonell, who is featured in both Shōgun and The Morning Show, is nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series.

Liza Colón-Zayas, receiving her first nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series, stars in The Bear.

Dakota Fanning, known for her childhood role in I Am Sam, is nominated for her performance in Ripley for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie.

Richard Gadd, a Scottish writer and comedian, gains recognition for Baby Reindeer with nominations in multiple categories, including Outstanding Limited Or Anthology Series and Outstanding Lead Actor.

Lily Gladstone from Under The Bridge becomes one of the first Indigenous female performers nominated for an acting Emmy, alongside fellow nominee, Kali Reis.

Tom Goodman-Hill is acknowledged for his antagonist role in Baby Reindeer with a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie.

Ryan Gosling, a frequent host of Saturday Night Live, receives his first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series.

Jessica Gunning, playing the stalker Martha in Baby Reindeer, is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie.

Detective Evangeline Navarro in True Detective: Night Country, played by Kali Reis, also marks her as one of the first Indigenous female nominees.

Paul Rudd earns dual nominations for his performances in Only Murders In The Building and his narration in Secrets Of The Octopus.

Hiroyuki Sanada is recognized for his role in Shōgun, continuing his seamless expansion from Japanese cinema to Hollywood.

Anna Sawai from Shōgun is the only first-time nominee in the Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series category.

Mena Suvari earns a nomination for RZR, continuing her recognition from roles in American Beauty and the American Pie series.

Naomi Watts, who broke through with Mulholland Drive, is nominated for Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.

Dominic West is nominated for The Crown, known for his iconic role in The Wire.

Lastly, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai from Reservation Dogs marks a historic nomination as the first Indigenous actor in the lead actor category for comedy.
