Invincible Creator Teases “Darkest” Era With New Blue Suit Unveil

Invincible is now making waves with its developments for Season 3, and the creator behind the series has hinted at a darker phase for Mark Grayson, complete with a new blue and black suit. Season 2 of Invincible put Mark through numerous challenges. While the first half dealt with his recovery from the dramatic events involving his father from Season 1, the latter half explored the potential of him descending into a violent path as a Viltrumite. Despite these challenges, Mark’s real struggles seem to be just beginning.

During the San Diego Comic-Con 2024 weekend, Invincible unveiled a first look at Season 3, revealing Mark would don the fan-favorite blue and black suit seen originally in the comics. Robert Kirkman, the mastermind behind the series, spoke about this change in a recent interview with Variety. He hinted that this upcoming phase would mirror the comics in being the “darkest and the most intense” era in Mark’s journey as Invincible.

Robert Kirkman elaborated on the new suit’s significance, stating, “Going into the third season, it seemed like a good time to bring a new Mark to the forefront after everything he’s been through in Season 2. He’s in a different headspace, and that gets reflected in his costume.” He added, “Anyone who has read the comic book series knows the blue suit era of ‘Invincible’ is the darkest and the most intense, and there’s a lot of really big things around the blue suit.”

Speaking of what fans can expect in Season 3, Kirkman remained somewhat cryptic but hinted at a significant escalation, saying, “I think you can see that Season 2 is an advancement of a lot of things that were introduced in Season 1. The stakes were higher, things got a little crazier, and there were a lot of pieces moving that were hinting at a lot of bigger stories. Those bigger stories really start crashing down in Season 3.” If the series continues to follow the original comics’ trajectory, Mark is in for some challenging times ahead.

As of now, Invincible has not set a release window or date for Season 3. However, fans have something to look forward to as Season 4 has already been announced. In the meantime, viewers can catch up on the first two seasons of Invincible, along with the Atom Eve special, available on Prime Video.
