‘It Shattered Like a Potato Chip’

Keanu Reeves has provided some detailed and rather gruesome insights into the injury he sustained on the set of his upcoming movie, Good Fortune.

The film is directed by and stars comedian and actor Aziz Ansari and features a stellar cast including Sandra Oh, Seth Rogen, and Keke Palmer. However, the plot of this much-anticipated comedy remains a well-guarded secret and the release date has not been disclosed yet.

Earlier this year, Reeves, 59, was spotted walking with crutches and sporting an ice pack on his left knee. Ansari later divulged that the John Wick star had fractured his kneecap after an unfortunate stumble on a rug in his movie trailer.

During a recent visit to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Reeves elaborated on the incident.

“I was filming a scene with Aziz Ansari and Seth Rogen, and we were in a cold plunge,” he began. “I was enjoying it, standing there as we wrapped up the scene. You know when you’re cold and you start shuffling? I was in a bathing suit with a towel over my head, doing the cold shuffle.”

Reeves continued: “I was shuffling in a room with protective carpets, but there was a small pocket. My foot got caught, and I went down, but my knee didn’t follow. In slow motion, I fell. My arms reached out, but my knee gave way, and my kneecap shattered like a potato chip.”

The audience and host groaned as Reeves recounted the ordeal. Although he initially thought he was okay, it soon became clear that something was amiss as his knee began to swell. “Comedy’s hard, man,” he joked.

When Colbert asked if cracking his kneecap was the worst injury he’d ever had, Reeves replied: “No, the two-level fusion of my spine was worse.”

Reflecting on that experience, which occurred just before he started training for The Matrix, Reeves recalled, “I was losing feeling and starting to fall in the shower. A doctor told me I needed surgery immediately.”

Reeves’ spinal cord had been compressed and splintered between portions of his spinal discs, necessitating the urgent procedure.

When asked about the cause of his injury, Reeves casually remarked: “So many things, motorcycle accidents, racquetball.”

While filming The Matrix, Reeves had to wear a special contraption around his neck to ensure his spine could heal correctly. This required adjustments to the production schedule, particularly for his fight scenes.

“But all’s well that ends well,” Reeves concluded on a positive note.
