James Gunn Hints at More ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Stars Joining DCU

With Superman: Legacy wrapped up, James Gunn is poised to bring exciting developments for both DC and Marvel fans.

The head of DC Studios hinted that some actors from his Guardians of the Galaxy series might join the new DC Universe, fueling rumors of potential appearances by Chris Pratt and Pom Klementieff.

When a fan asked on Threads if Gunn would cast any GOTG stars in the DC Universe, he responded, “Well, that would be a spoiler wouldn’t it?”

Gunn, who directed Chris Pratt as Peter Quill (Star-Lord) in all three Guardians films, sparked fan chatter when Pratt was spotted visiting him on the set of Superman: Legacy in June. When TMZ inquired whether he’d consider joining the DCU, Pratt enthusiastically said, “Yes, of course.”

“If it could fit into my schedule and it made sense, I would love it,” Pratt explained. “Of course, I love playing Star-Lord, and hopefully, there’s a chance that can come back. I just feel so blessed to be able to do any of it. If it’s right and the fans would love it, I’d be more than happy to do it.”

Pratt mentioned that “there’s always a chance” of making the leap to the DC Universe, but he refrained from speculating on which character he would play. “I just have to leave that to the fans and people like James to decide,” he stated. “I’m not exactly sure. I’m truly not sure.”

Pom Klementieff, who played Mantis in GOTG Vol. 2 and Vol. 3, also disclosed discussions with Gunn during San Antonio’s Superhero Comic Con in June. “I just want to keep working with James, so we’re going to keep trying to find ways to do that,” she said. “Yes, we’ve been talking about one specific character, but I can’t talk about that right now.”

Meanwhile, James’ actor brother Sean Gunn is joining the DCU as villain Maxwell Lord after playing Kraglin Obfonteri in the GOTG movies. The director has indicated that he’s not against casting more MCU actors in his future DCU projects.

Last month, Gunn celebrated on Instagram as filming wrapped on Superman: Legacy, which is set to debut on July 11, 2025.
