James Gunn Teases “Amazing” Soundtrack

James Gunn, renowned for his unique integration of soundtracks into his films, ensures that music is a significant part of the filmmaking process. He often includes the songs he plans to use directly in his scripts, allowing the tunes to be played during on-set filming. Even though his upcoming project, Creature Commandos, is an animated series, fans can still expect Gunn’s signature touch when it comes to its soundtrack. The filmmaker has hinted that the music for the Max series will be “sick.”

In a recent post on Threads, Gunn revealed the composers for Creature Commandos, naming Kevin Kiner and Clint Mansell as the talents behind the score. Kiner is widely recognized for his work on several animated Star Wars projects, including Tales of the Empire, The Bad Batch, and The Clone Wars. On the other hand, Mansell gained fame from his composition for Black Swan and the first season of Gunn’s Peacemaker series.

Creature Commandos boasts an impressive cast, many of whom are expected to appear in live-action DCU properties as well. The ensemble includes Sean Gunn as Weasel, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot, and Steve Agee reprising his role as John Economos from Peacemaker.

Creature Commandos is based on the great team from DC,” Gunn previously explained. “What we’re doing with the DCU is, we are having animation tied directly into live action. Television, movies, and games all intertwine within the same universe. We’re going to cast actors that are going to be able to play the characters in this as well as in other things, some of which we’ve already cast. I’ve written all seven episodes of the show, and it’s in production. So that’s the first thing, and I love it.”

Creature Commandos is scheduled to debut on Max this December, although the exact release date has yet to be announced. Gunn has written all seven episodes for the series.
