Jamie Lee Curtis (‘The Bear’) is Unanimous Pick – Gold Derby

Having trouble predicting who will win Best Comedy Guest Actress at the upcoming Emmy Awards? Let’s consult Gold Derby’s 2024 Emmy Experts! These savvy pundits from major media outlets have chimed in with their predictions, and all of them believe the trophy will go to Jamie Lee Curtis (“The Bear“). The other potential nominees, per the Experts’ current racetrack odds, are Olivia Colman (“The Bear”), Kaitlin Olson (“Hacks”), J. Smith-Cameron (“Hacks”), and Maya Rudolph (“Saturday Night Live”).

As of this writing, all 13 of our Emmy Experts predict a victory for Curtis: Ben Travers (Indiewire), Christopher Rosen (Gold Derby), Clayton Davis (Variety), Dave Nemetz (TV Line), Eric Deggans (NPR), Jazz Tangcay (Variety), Joyce Eng (Gold Derby), Matt Roush (TV Guide Magazine), Peter Travers (ABC), Ray Richmond (Gold Derby), Shawn Edwards (WDAF-TV Fox), Susan King (Gold Derby), and Susan Wloszczyna (Gold Derby). She plays Donna “Dee Dee” Berzatto on “The Bear” Season 2, the emotionally unstable mother of the Berzatto siblings. To date, Curtis only has a single Emmy nomination to her name for the 1998 telefilm “Nicholas’ Gift,” though she recently took home an Oscar for “Everything Everywhere All at Once” (2022).

Next in line, according to our Emmyologists’ rankings, is Colman for “The Bear” Season 2. The British actress takes on the role of Terry, the executive chef at the fine dining restaurant where Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) trains. Colman is already an Emmy winner for “The Crown” (2021), as well as an Oscar champion for “The Favourite” (2018).

Our pundits collectively have Olson in third place for “Hacks” Season 3. She once again appears as Deborah “DJ” Vance Jr., a recovering addict, who’s the daughter of legendary comedian Deborah (Jean Smart). Olson is a two-time Emmy nominee for “Flipped” (2020) and “Hacks” (2022), and she is hoping to finally take home a trophy this year.

Also looking strong in our Experts’ rankings is Smith-Cameron. She makes her debut on “Hacks” in Season 3 as Kathy Vance, Deborah’s estranged sister, who accepts Deborah’s surprise invite to join her at Christmas. Smith-Cameron is a back-to-back Emmy nominee for “Succession” in 2022 and ’23, so a bid for “Hacks” in 2024 would make it three citations in a row.

Some of the most recent Emmy winners in the Best Comedy Guest Actress category include Judith Light (“Poker Face”) in 2023, Laurie Metcalf (“Hacks”) in 2022, Maya Rudolph (“Saturday Night Live”) in 2021 and ’20, Jane Lynch (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) in 2019, and Tiffany Haddish (“Saturday Night Live”) in 2018. Find out who will be in the running to join this esteemed list when the Primetime Emmy nominations are announced on July 17, 2024.
