Jane Fonda Raises Concerns About Affleck Marriage in Lopez Doc

Jane Fonda has spoken openly about her worries regarding Jennifer Lopez’s romantic relationship with Ben Affleck. These insights were shared in Lopez’s documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, which showcases the journey behind her recent album.

A clip from the documentary has recently gained attention after news broke about Lopez and Affleck’s split. In the footage, the 86-year-old actress expresses her protective instincts toward Lopez, who is 55, during a phone conversation.

Fonda starts by expressing her emotional investment in the couple’s relationship. “Hi sweetheart. Thanks for calling. First of all, I want you to know, I don’t entirely know why, but I feel invested in you and Ben. I really want this to work,” she begins, sharing her heartfelt feelings.

However, she quickly transitions to her concerns, saying, “It feels too much like you’re trying to prove something instead of just living it. You know, every other photograph is the two of you kissing and the two of you hugging.”

Lopez chuckles at the comment and reassures Fonda, “That’s just us living our life.” Yet, she acknowledges Fonda’s protective nature, saying, “She’s very protective of me. She felt like, ‘You’re putting yourself out there to get beat up again.’”

Fonda’s worries didn’t stop there; she took her concerns a step further by discussing them with Lopez’s manager, Benny Medina. Notably, Medina is reported to have a tense relationship with Affleck and has openly expressed his disdain for him.

During her conversation with Medina, Fonda stated, “I believe that everyone in the entire world is pulling for this relationship and this love.” She emphasized the significance of how their relationship is portrayed to the public, underscoring the need for discretion. “The idea of how you present that is so sacrosanct, so important that it should be handled in a way that you aren’t overly flaunting it, so much so that it creates any form of criticism or resentment,” she explained.

Fonda’s primary concern revolves around the possibility of negativity directed at Lopez. “My biggest concern is that when critics or people come at her in any way,” she cautioned.

Lopez and Affleck’s romantic journey has been a rollercoaster. They first began dating in the early 2000s and got engaged in 2002. Unfortunately, their wedding plans were called off, and they parted ways in 2004.

However, the duo rekindled their love in 2021, ultimately getting married in July 2022 at the iconic Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. Just a month later, they celebrated their union again at Affleck’s estate in Riceboro, Georgia, surrounded by friends and family.

Their wedding was made even more special as it included Lopez’s 16-year-old twins, Max and Emme, from her marriage to Marc Anthony, along with Affleck’s children from his previous marriage to Jennifer Garner: Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12.

Despite their celebrated reunion, the couple’s happiness was short-lived. On August 20, Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck in Los Angeles County Superior Court, coincidentally on the anniversary of their second wedding ceremony.
