Jenn Tran Reveals Why She Nearly Declined ‘Bachelorette’

Season 21 of The Bachelorette is almost halfway over. However, the show was close to not happening with Jenn Tran as the lead. Read on to discover why she almost declined the offer.

Jenn Tran initially appeared on The Bachelor while she was in the midst of her studies to become a Physician’s Assistant (PA). She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in molecular biology from the University of Wisconsin.

Jenn Tran shared in a recent interview with MedPage Today that her passion for the medical field was ignited by her older brother, who was an emergency medical technician (EMT) while she was in high school.

“When I was in high school, my brother was an emergency medical technician (EMT), so he would talk about his experiences all the time, and it just seemed like a really cool thing to do and to be able to help out with. So I joined my local ambulance corps and became an EMT.”

In college, Jenn realized she did not want to spend decades in school to become a doctor. She felt that a career as a physician’s assistant was more “suitable” for her lifestyle.

Choosing Jenn Tran as the Bachelorette sparked controversy, partly due to racism from viewers and speculation that she was the third choice after Daisy Kent and Maria Georgas.

Nonetheless, it was not the controversy that almost kept her from accepting the role. Her primary concern was whether her PA school in Miami would allow her to take a temporary leave.

“Yeah, both times — going on “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” — I definitely had to consider PA school at the top of my list of reasons why I wouldn’t be able to go.”

Fortunately, her school was accommodating. Jenn Tran was able to do a medical rotation between filming The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.

Jenn has only one year left before graduation. Despite the assumptions made online, she intends to return to PA school after the reality show concludes.

“I know where my passions lie and what I’m going to do with my life. And I think it’s OK to follow multiple dreams if you have them and to not take criticism from other people, and to just do what feels best for you.”

Although she is open to opportunities like becoming a social media influencer, her ultimate plan remains to finish her degree and pursue a career in the medical field.

Do you think she will fulfill her goal and return to PA school? Let us know in the comments.
