Jenna Ortega Joins Glen Powell’s Mysterious Upcoming Movie

The next film by J.J. Abrams will feature Glen Powell in the lead role, and Jenna Ortega is in final talks to join the cast.

According to Deadline, Ortega might co-star alongside Powell in Abrams’ upcoming “secret” Warner Bros. project. Plot specifics are still unknown, but it has been clarified that it is not a time-travel movie. Abrams is both the writer and producer under his Bad Robot banner.

If the deal is finalized, Abrams will be bringing together two of Hollywood’s most promising young actors. J.J. Abrams is renowned for co-creating popular TV series like Felicity, Alias, Lost, and Fringe. He made his directorial debut in 2006 with Mission: Impossible 3, having previously written screenplays for movies such as Regarding Henry, Forever Young, and Armageddon.

Following Mission: Impossible 3, Abrams directed the 2009 Star Trek reboot starring Chris Pine. He continued with the science fiction thriller Super 8, followed by Star Trek: Into Darkness. Abrams then undertook the challenge of rebooting the Star Wars saga with The Force Awakens. After passing the directorial baton to Rian Johnson for The Last Jedi, Abrams returned to close out the trilogy with The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. Despite mixed critical reviews, both movies were financial hits. The Force Awakens grossed over $2 billion worldwide, while The Rise of Skywalker earned $1 billion.

Recently, Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega have climbed the ranks to become top names in Hollywood. Powell has been acting for years, with early roles in Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over and Fast Food Nation. His big break came in 2015 with his role in the first season of Scream Queens. Powell has since appeared in The Dark Knight Rises, The Expendables 3, Ride Along 2, and Hidden Figures.

The year 2022 was particularly significant for Powell. He starred in Richard Linklater’s Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood and was featured in Top Gun: Maverick, performing alongside Tom Cruise and Miles Teller. The following year, he collaborated again with Linklater as a co-writer and star of Hit Man. Powell also starred opposite Sydney Sweeney in the rom-com Anyone but You, which made over $220 million at the box office.

Currently, Powell can be seen in Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters. The standalone sequel has earned nearly $275 million at the box office, with over 70% of that revenue coming from the United States.

Ortega first gained attention through her roles in TV series like Jane the Virgin and Stuck in the Middle. She made a significant impact with her performance in the second season of You. In 2022, she participated in the fifth Scream movie, which helped her gain mainstream recognition. That same year, she also starred in the slasher film X.

Ortega plays the titular role in Netflix’s hit series Wednesday, depicting Wednesday Addams. The show, executive produced by Tim Burton, has been a success and is set to return for a second season. Upcoming, she will appear in Burton’s Beetlejuice sequel, alongside returning cast members Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara.
