Jenna Ortega Reveals Receiving Fake Explicit Images of Herself Since Age 14

Jenna Ortega has shared that she deleted her Twitter account after years of dealing with unsolicited images and explicit, AI-generated content depicting her. The Wednesday star recently opened up about her social media experiences, recounting how, as a child, she was advised to go online to “build her image,” only to end up receiving “disgusting” pictures.

In an interview with The New York Times, the 21-year-old actress expressed concerns about the current surge in AI technology, based on her troubling past encounters with digital means to create fake pictures. “Did I like being 14 and making a Twitter account because I was supposed to and seeing dirty edited content of me as a child? No. It’s terrifying. It’s corrupt. It’s wrong,” Ortega stated.

She elaborated on her distressing experiences, recounting, “One of the first — actually the first [direct message] that I ever opened myself when I was 12 was an unsolicited photo of a man’s genitals, and that was just the beginning of what was to come.”

Ortega decided to delete her Twitter account after the global success of Wednesday in 2022, a period which also saw a significant rise in the number of pornographic images she was sent. “The influx after the show had come out – these absurd images and photos, and I already was in a confused state that I just deleted it,” she revealed. “It was disgusting, and it made me feel bad. It made me feel uncomfortable. Anyway, that’s why I deleted it, because I couldn’t say anything without seeing something like that. So one day I just woke up, and I thought, Oh, I don’t need this anymore. So I dropped it.”

The former child actor, who has risen to be one of Hollywood’s most sought-after stars, is set to appear next month in the much-anticipated sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Her impressive portfolio of work includes roles in X, the provocative Miller’s Girl, and the reboot of Scream.

Earlier this month, Ortega expressed regret over previous comments she made about altering lines in the Wednesday scripts. Reflecting on her remarks, she admitted she “probably could have used my words better in describing all of that.”

Recently, the actor made a cameo appearance in a music video by pop star Sabrina Carpenter. The video features the duo reenacting scenes from popular films like Death Becomes Her and Ginger Snaps.
