Jenna Ortega, Winona Ryder & Catherine O’Hara Go Method at Venice Red Carpet

Beetlejuice has officially been resurrected on the big screen as Tim Burton presented the world premiere of his much-anticipated sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, at the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday night.

While the zany antics of the ghoulish title character may have rightfully stolen the show on the Lido, fashion wasn’t far behind.

The stars of the sequel went method, presenting looks on opening night that wouldn’t be out of place if worn by their characters on the big screen. Here is a closer look.

Jenna Ortega

With her stylist Enrique Melendez, the Dior ambassador has been recreating looks from the original Beetlejuice film on her press tour, and she continued the trend with this Dior Haute Couture red tulle dress. The look is inspired by the wedding scene from the 1988 original that featured Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz marrying Michael Keaton’s title character.

Ortega, who plays Lydia’s daughter Astrid Deetz, paired the gown with accessories from Dior Joaillerie including a Bois de Rose necklace, bracelet and rings in white gold, pink gold and diamonds. It’s a red-hot look and it was also just plain hot in Venice on Wednesday, which made the ensemble a wise choice for a steamy summer night.

Winona Ryder

Styled by Erica Cloud, the veteran actress hit the red carpet in a Chanel Haute Couture ensemble that would look right at home on the big screen if it were worn by her character, Lydia Deetz. She paired the black silk tulle skirt with a fitted tuxedo jacket and vest with gold buttons.

Ryder’s red carpet attire also paid homage to days gone by as the look was inspired by a style presented at the fashion house’s haute couture presentation in 2007.

Michael Keaton and Catherine O’Hara

“Did you see Catherine O’Hara’s dress? Wow!” That was the reaction of someone standing near The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet last night when O’Hara arrived to the scene outside Sala Grande.

The veteran comedy star turned up in a custom Oscar de la Renta woven leather column gown embellished with floral designs and avant-garde pieces jutting out from the top. O’Hara, who reprises her role as Delia Deetz, accessorized the look with jewels by Cartier, a festival partner.

Tim Burton and Monica Bellucci

The Italian screen icon selected a custom look by Vivienne Westwood for the festival’s opening ceremony. Bellucci, who stars as Dolores, a one-time love interest of Beetlejuice, arrived arm-in-arm with her filmmaker beau Burton, seen above in a black Dior tuxedo. Belluci finished off the ensemble with a Cartier necklace and Roger Vivier clutch.
