Jennifer Hudson Joins Interscope Records

Actor, singer, and television personality Jennifer Hudson has signed a new deal with Interscope Records, as announced by the label on Wednesday.

Steve Berman, vice chairman of Interscope Capitol Label Group, praised Hudson in a statement, saying, “Jennifer has made so many important contributions to global musical culture onstage, onscreen, and through her incredible body of recordings. She is a tour de force, and we are thrilled that she has chosen to spend the next phase of her career at Interscope.”

Hudson is a multi-faceted entertainer with achievements spanning film, music, and television. Notably, she is the youngest female EGOT winner in history. She earned a Grammy for Best R&B Album for her 2008 self-titled debut album. Additionally, she won an Oscar for her role as Effie in the 2007 film “Dreamgirls,” adapted from the Broadway musical. In 2022, she secured a Tony Award as co-producer for “A Strange Loop,” which won Best Musical.

With this deal, Hudson joins an impressive roster of Interscope artists that includes Olivia Rodrigo, Blackpink, Dr. Dre, Elton John, Lady Gaga, and Lana Del Rey. Wednesday’s announcement, however, did not reveal specific details about Hudson’s future musical releases.

In addition to her music career, Hudson has been occupied with her one-hour nationally syndicated talk show, “The Jennifer Hudson Show.” Debuting in 2022, the show has garnered a total of ten Daytime Emmy Award nominations and is scheduled to return on September 16 for its third season.

Hudson made her Broadway debut in 2015 as Shug Avery in the Tony award-winning production of John Doyle’s “The Color Purple.” The accompanying album won a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album, marking Hudson’s second Grammy win. Her varied career also includes a starring role in the 2021 Aretha Franklin biopic “Respect,” which she also executive produced.
