Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck Divorce: Inside Bennifer’s Doomed Romance

After two years of marriage and numerous separation rumors, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have officially broken up once again. The “Let’s Get Loud” singer filed for divorce in the Los Angeles Superior Court without an attorney.

Speculation about the couple’s split has been rampant. They hadn’t been photographed together for over 40 days, Affleck was frequently seen without his wedding ring, and he didn’t attend J-Lo’s Bridgerton-themed birthday party. Their $68 million Beverly Hills mansion was listed for sale, and Affleck made headlines with his “mid-life crisis” mohawk.

In court documents, the date of Bennifer’s separation was marked as April 26. Interestingly, Lopez filed for divorce on August 20, which marked the exact two-year anniversary of their elaborate wedding ceremony in Savannah, Georgia, as reported by TMZ.

The journey of J-Lo and Ben Affleck’s rekindled romance has been closely followed. Fans first celebrated their reunion in May 2021. In April of that year, Lopez announced her split from former baseball player Alex Rodriguez. Affleck, around the same time, praised Lopez’s talent and perseverance in an InStyle interview.

A month later, the couple were spotted holding hands during a holiday in Big Sky, Montana, nearly two decades after ending their first engagement and separating in 2004.

A year into their rekindled relationship, Lopez announced a second engagement in April 2022, seen wearing a massive diamond ring. She described their reunion as a “beautiful outcome” and mentioned it came at a time when they could genuinely appreciate and celebrate each other.

Three months after announcing their engagement, the couple eloped to The Little White Chapel in Las Vegas. Lopez shared the news in her newsletter, expressing her joy and the patience it took, highlighting that love is beautiful, kind, and patient.

August 2022 saw Affleck and Lopez host a grand wedding ceremony at Affleck’s $8 million home in Savannah, Georgia. Lopez donned a Ralph Lauren gown with a 20-foot train. She later shared that the celebration helped heal old wounds and lifted the weight of the past off their shoulders.

In February 2024, the rumors of a potential split grew louder. Lopez released a new album and a self-financed experimental film titled “This is Me… Now: A Love Story” that came with an Amazon Prime documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told.” Affleck revealed in the documentary that some aspects of being with Lopez made him uncomfortable, which fueled the divorce rumors.

Affleck mentioned that one condition of their reunion was to avoid a relationship on social media, but he realized it was an unfair expectation considering Lopez’s career. Despite their efforts, Affleck purchased a $20 million home in Los Angeles in July, weeks after listing his 12-bedroom Beverly Hills home, which he shared with Lopez, for $68 million.

By this time, the couple was often referred to as “estranged” in reports. They hadn’t been seen together publicly for four months, spending both the Fourth of July and their wedding anniversary apart. In July 2024, Lopez celebrated her 55th birthday with a grand Bridgerton-themed party in the Hamptons, without Affleck’s presence. Affleck was spotted in Los Angeles on the same day, again without his wedding ring.

Lopez later shared on Instagram that she had shed some tears over the past year and thanked her followers for their constant support.

On August 20, Lopez officially filed for divorce from Affleck after two years of marriage. TMZ sources indicated that the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement, which means their earnings over the past two years could be considered community property in the divorce proceedings. Representatives for both Lopez and Affleck have been contacted for comments.
