Jennifer Lopez Divorces Ben Affleck After 2 Years of Marriage

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s long and storied relationship has reached a dramatic milestone. After two years of marriage, the actress has officially filed for divorce from the actor, choosing their wedding anniversary to submit the papers.

According to court documents obtained by USA TODAY, Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday, August 20. The couple had tied the knot in Georgia on the same date in 2022. However, reports from TMZ and Variety indicate that their separation date is actually listed as April 26, 2024.

The love story between Lopez and Affleck originally began in 2002 when they met on the set of Gigli. Their chemistry quickly moved off-screen, and they got engaged in November of that year. Despite calling off the wedding just months later and officially breaking up in 2004, the two rekindled their romance in 2021 and became engaged once again in 2022. This marriage was Lopez’s fourth and Affleck’s second.

This time around, the Monster In Law star emphasized the importance of maintaining some level of privacy regarding their relationship. “I think what we learned from the last time is that love, when you are lucky enough to find it, is so sacred and special, and you have to hold a little bit of that privately,” Lopez said during an appearance on Today. “But we’re very happy, if that’s what you’re wondering about.”

Despite these efforts, breakup rumors surfaced earlier this year, fueled by Lopez’s solo appearance at the Met Gala in May. Her absence from “The Greatest Roast of All Time: The Roast of Tom Brady” in Los Angeles, an event Affleck attended, further sparked speculation.

Affleck was also notably missing from Lopez’s Bridgerton-themed birthday party in July. In an emotional caption following her special day, Lopez reflected, “It’s hard to believe we have spent all this time together. It’s funny as I sit here contemplating on the most extraordinary journey. I still feel like the same girl starting out so full of energy and bravado, so ready to take on the whole world on the outside, and yet so tender, fragile and sometimes frightened but always full of love on the inside.”
